Mississippi State Baseball Alumni Gather Next Weekend On Campus

STARKVILLE, Miss. - Plans are moving forward for the 13th alumni baseball weekend next week at Mississippi State. The biennial event, scheduled October 18-19, is expected to draw more than 50 former baseball players and managers representing teams spanning eight decades of Mississippi State baseball to the MSU campus.

The weekend schedule kicks off Saturday at 1 p.m. with an alumni golf tournament at the MSU Golf Course, followed by a dinner in the Bryan Athletic Administration Building. Capping the weekend will be the 2008 alumni baseball game, with Diamond Dogs of the past teaming with members of the 2009 Mississippi State team in a Maroon/White game at Dudy Noble Field. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. and is open to the public with no charge for admission.

Rindge, NH - After a string of one-run losses, the #2 Bryant Bulldogs made sure they’re elimination game with #6 C.W. Post was never close, grabbing an early lead and cruising to a 10-3 win.

Southern Connecticut 6 Pace 1

RINDGE, N.H. - Senior starting pitcher Toby Nylin (Pleasant Valley, Conn.) pitched a complete-game four-hitter and recorded a career-high 11 strikeouts on Saturday to lead the Southern Connecticut State University baseball team to a 6-1 victory over Pace in an elimination game at the Northeast-10 Conference Championships at Dr. Pappas Field. Freshman left fielder Andrew Babb (Hopkinton, Mass.) hit 2-for-4 and drove in two runs for the Owls. With the win, SCSU improves to 35-16, while Pace falls to 31-23 with the loss. South Easton, Mass. – The Northeast-10 reigning regular season and tournament champions were selected to finish first again as voted upon by the conference’s 13 coaches.

Franklin Pierce University, picked to finish second nationally in Division II by Baseball America, finished 26-4 in the Northeast-10 last year claiming its second straight regular season championship and second tournament championship in three years. The Quinnipiac Bobcats knocked off the Yale Bulldogs over the weekend by a score of 5-2. The Bobcats took advantage of a key Bulldog error in the bottom of the third which gave the Bobcats an early 2-0 lead. The Bobcats would extend the lead to get the 5-2 victory. In the consolation game, Southern Connecticut State knocked off New Haven 8-2. A full recap is available here.
