WICHITA, Kan. – Lefthander Shawn Joy twirled a complete game shutout, as Southern Illinois University (20-16, 4-7) stunned No. 5 Wichita State (29-7, 8-3), 3-0, earlier today at Eck Stadium.
A native of Topeka, Kan., Joy allowed only five hits, struck out five and walked none in the best game of his career to date. He also became the first Saluki to throw a complete game in 36 games this season. Read the rest of this entry »

Southern Illinois 17 Murray State 4
CARBONDALE, Ill. – Dean Cademartori narrowly missed hitting for the cycle when he went 4-for-5 with two singles, a double, home run, two runs scored and a career-high five RBI to lead Southern Illinois University (18-11) to a 17-4 win over Murray State (11-14) earlier today at Abe Martin Field.
SIU set new season-highs with 17 runs and 22 hits on the day. SIU last had 17 runs and 22 hits in a game at Florida Atlantic on Feb. 12, 2006. Read the rest of this entry »

ShareJONESBORO, Ark. – Southern Illinois University (14-11) erupted for seven runs on eight hits in the fourth inning to fuel a 10-3 win over Arkansas State (14-15) earlier tonight at Tomlinson Stadium.
The Salukis roughed up ASU starting lefthander Jett Jones for seven-straight hits in their biggest inning of the year.
Scott Elmendorf led things off with a single to center and went to second on a base hit by Mark Kelly. Bret Maugeri followed with a bunt single to load the bases with no outs.

Junior Frank Pesanello hit what was the eventual game-winning, pinch-hit, three-run homer in the top of the eighth inning to guide the Northeastern University baseball team to an 8-6 victory over the Rhode Island Rams at Bill Beck Field in Kingston, Rhode Island on Tuesday evening.
Pesanello’s homer was his sixth of the season, putting him second on the team behind captain Mike Lyon, who has eight on the season. Lyon, who has been anchoring the Husky attack all season, led the team with three hits, including two doubles, an RBI and a run scored. Read the rest of this entry »

Spokane, Wash.- Junior first baseman Ryan Wiegand homered for the third straight game and Gonzaga University won its fourth straight and its seventh in the last eight outings with a 7-4 win over Indiana University Monday in the opener of the Pepsi/Johnny Quick baseball tournament at Beiden Field.
With the scored tied 4-4 in the eighth, Wiegand hit a two-out 0-1 pitch to left-center to put the Bulldogs (7-5) up 6-4. Evan Wells had opened the inning with a walk off Anthony Agnew, on in relief of Hoosiers (3-6) starter Tyler Tufts. Chris Squires relieved Agnew and the Bulldogs got a sacrifice bunt and a groundout to third to set the stage for Wiegand, who tied Jason Chatwood for the team home run lead. In the final day of action at the Coca-Cola Southern Miss Baseball Classic both Southern Mississippi and Southern Illinois were able to pick up victories. Southern Miss took care of business against Northwestern State by a score of 10-7. They were led by a solid hitting attack from Brian Dozier who went 3-4 at the plate. Southern Illinois won the game in the 13th behind RBI hits by Tyler Choate and Micheal Finigan. Louisville tried to make a comeback in the bottom of the 13th but were unable to produce the two runs needed.
