(February 10, 2009) – The Franklin Pierce University baseball team has been selected as the unanimous favorite in the Northeast-10 Conference Preseason Coaches’ Poll, as announced Tuesday by the conference office. SMITHFIELD, RI – The Bryant University baseball team took Northeast-10 rival Southern New Hampshire for 15 runs off 18 hits, batting around in the fifth inning, en route to the Bulldogs’ second shutout of the season, 15-0, Thursday at the Bryant Baseball Complex.

Bryant went up 3-0 by the end of the fourth, scoring one in the bottom of the first and two more in the fourth frame, before exploding for a nine-run, seven-hit fifth inning that saw the Bulldogs (14-10, 4-1 Northeast-10) bat around – and seal a 2008 regular-season sweep of Southern New Hampshire (2-11, 0-5). South Easton, Mass. – The Northeast-10 reigning regular season and tournament champions were selected to finish first again as voted upon by the conference’s 13 coaches.

Franklin Pierce University, picked to finish second nationally in Division II by Baseball America, finished 26-4 in the Northeast-10 last year claiming its second straight regular season championship and second tournament championship in three years.
