(DURHAM, N.C.) – Rick Hague (Rice) went 3-5 with two doubles and three RBI and Gerrit Cole (UCLA) pitched lights out for six and two-thirds innings to lead the USA Baseball National Team (Collegiate) to an 8-1 win over Team Canada at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park Friday night.
Tyler Holt (Florida State) led the game off with a stand up double and stole third base on Canadian starting pitcher and sixth round draft pick of the Philadelphia Phillies, Steven Inch. (CARY, N.C.) – USA Baseball announced Wednesday night the 22 members of its 2009 National Team (Collegiate). The roster is headlined by shortstop and 2008 National Team member Christian Colon (Cal State Fullerton; Capey, Puerto Rico), and consists of five outfielders, six infielders, 10 pitchers, and one utility player. (CARY, N.C.) – Christian Colon (Cal State Fullerton) went 3-4 with a solo home run and three RBI for the Blue Team in its 6-1 victory over the Red Team, Tuesday, at the USA Baseball National Team (Collegiate) Trials in Cary, N.C.
Christian Colon (Cal State Fullerton) scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the second inning when he lifted a ball over the left-field fence on White Team starter T.J. Walz (Kansas). His homer put the Blue Team ahead 1-0 early in the contest. Read the rest of this entry »

(CARY, N.C.) – Christian Colon (Cal State Fullerton) hit an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning as the Blue Team defeated the Red Team 2-0 in a seven inning intrasquad game on Sunday at the USA Baseball National Team (Collegiate) Trials.
With runners on the corners and two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning, Christian Colon (Cal State Fullerton) hit an RBI single to right field that easily scored Casey McGrew (Wright State) from third base. HOUSTON – The third-seeded Xavier baseball team captured the program’s first NCAA Tournament win Saturday afternoon, eliminating No. 4 Sam Houston State, 9-6, at Reckling Park in the Houston Regional hosted by Rice University. In the second day of action at the Austin (Tx) Regional, the elimination game featured a matchup between Army from the Patriot League and Texas State of the Southland Conference. HOUSTON, Texas – Justin Bloxom went 5-for-5 at the plate with two home runs as 14th-ranked Kansas State cruised to a 16-8 win over Xavier in its first-ever NCAA Regional baseball game Friday afternoon at Reckling Park.
The Wildcats (42-16-1) belted 17 hits against the Musketeers (38-20) as Bloxom, Jordan Cruz (3-for-4), Carter Jurica (2-for-4) and Jason King (2-for-3) led the K-State offense in the opening game of the Houston Regional at Rice University. Read the rest of this entry »

The first game saw Boston College as the 3 seed take on the 2 seed Texas State. Texas State built a 5-2 lead going into the top of the 9th inning. But, Boston College comes storming back to take a 8-5 lead in the top of the 9th. Texas State Paul Goldschmidt delivered a two run Home Run to cut the Eagles lead to 8-7 in the bottom of the inning but were not able to get closer.

The Rice Owls will host the Houston Regional at Reckling Park after finishing in second place in the Conference USA regular season and winning the Conference USA Tournament title. Kansas State, the two seed, meets Xavier, the three seed, at 2 p.m. CT on Friday. Following that game, host Rice will take the field against Sam Houston State, the four seed. The two teams split during their two regular season meetings, with the home team winning both affairs.
The first elimination game is slated for 2 p.m. CT on Saturday with the winner’s bracket championship to follow at 7 p.m. CT. The loser’s bracket championship game is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Sunday, and the first championship game is a 7 p.m. CT start time that same evening.
