Head Coach Terry Burrows and the McNeese State Cowboys have released their 2009 campaign. The Cowboys will start the season with 11 games at home starting with a 3 game set against Houston Baptist on February 20th. They will then welcome Arkansas Little Rock for a quick two game mid week series. Coach Burrows and the Cowboys will follow that up with non conference matchup with Louisiana Tech. The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday the 28th with a single game on March 1st.

The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team put the final touches on its fall practice slate over the weekend with second annual Blue-Grey Classic at Chapman Field. The Blue team came out victorious in all three games with each game decided by no more than two runs.
In the opening game, the Blue rallied from a 3-0 deficit to knock off the Grey 7-5. Blue starter Andrew Toppert gave up three runs in the top of the first but then settled in and did not allow another run over his final five innings of work. In six innings, he pitched six innings and gave up three runs on six hits with four strikeouts and no walks. Brett Gibson got the last five outs for the save.

ARLINGTON, Texas- Ten games against 2008 NCAA Tournament teams, 26 home dates and a St. Patrick’s Day game at QuikTrip Park highlight the 2009 UT Arlington baseball schedule, which was released today by head coach Darin Thomas.
“We are excited about competing this spring,” Thomas said. “Our schedule, as usual, will be very challenging. We will need to be at our best every time we take the field.”

Freshman VJ Bunner capped off a seven-run sixth inning with a two-run single to help the Red squad defeat the Gray, 7-5, in the first game of the Lamar Fall World Series on Monday.
The Gray team scored five runs in the top of the fifth to take a 5-0 lead. Senior outfielder Anthony Moore had a two-run inside the park home run, while senior infielder Jeremiah Sammy collected a pair of hits on the day. Read the rest of this entry »

NATCHITOCHES - Barbier’s Bombers took a 2-1 lead in the Demon World Series Classic after Sunday’s 10-7 win over Kelly’s Heroes.
After dominating pitching performances in game two, the bats awoke on Sunday with both teams combining for 22 hits.
The Bombers were led at the plate by third baseman Joe Urtuzuastegui’s 1 for 2 showing with a double and two runs batted in. Second baseman Chase Lyles was 1 for 3 at the plate with a RBI, stolen base, and two runs scored while Beau Snodgrass was a perfect 2 for 2 with a double and RBI. Read the rest of this entry »

It was a great Fall afternoon to take in the last scrimmage of the fall season between Texas State and Texas. Sophomore Cole Green got the start for Texas while Junior Michael Russo got the start for Texas State. Cole gave up a two out single to Paul Goldschmidt but was stranded on first.
In the Bottom of the First, Texas was able to scratch a run across on a single by Tucker and than Torres followed that up with a single and moved over to 2nd on the throwing error which brought in home Tucker.

The Rice baseball program will hold its final exhibition of the fall season on Saturday (Nov. 1) at 1 pm at Reckling Park. Admission is free for the 14-inning exhibition against longtime rival McNeese State.
Not only is it the last chance to get a sneak peek of the 2009 Rice baseball team, head coach Wayne Graham will speak about the conclusion of the fall training period and provide an outlook for the upcoming season. The Owl players will introduce themselves to the fans in attendance.

The Lumberjack baseball team got looks at 19 players on Tuesday, but fell 11-5 to Grambling in a fall baseball action at Jaycees Field.
The game does not count toward either team’s 2009 record, however it does count toward each team’s allotment of allowed games.

There is no admission charge and there will be free hot dogs and cold drinks from Coca Cola according to head coach Terry Burrows.

USA BASEBALL FACES FIRST OUTSIDE COMPETITION WITH PAIR OF WEEKEND GAMES
After four weeks of intrasquad scrimmages, South Alabama baseball takes on its first outside competition of the season with a pair of exhibition games this weekend. The Jags host Meridian Community College Saturday at noon and Northwest Florida State College Sunday at 1 p.m. Both games are at Stanky Field.
Saturday’s game against Meridian is scheduled for seven innings, but the teams are allowed to play for up to four hours, so they will play a second game with the remaining time. After the seven-inning game ends, there will be a brief break for field maintenance before the new game begins. The second game will last as long as possible within the initial four-hour timeframe.
