LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Behind a first inning grand slam from sophomore Phil Wunderlich and seven strong innings on the mound from sophomore lefty Bob Revesz, the 23rd-ranked Louisville baseball team earned a 12-1 win over No. 27 South Florida in front of a regular-season record crowd of 3,663 fans at Jim Patterson Stadium to close a three-game sweep of the Bulls and clinch the program’s first ever BIG EAST regular-season title. MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Senior Joe Agreste and freshman left-hander Jonathan Jones had stellar performances to lead the West Virginia University baseball team to a doubleheader sweep over Cincinnati on Saturday at Hawley Field.

Agreste’s four-RBI effort led the Mountaineers (33-14, 15-8) to a 15-9 victory in a back-and-forth battle in game one, and Jones (6-1) held a powerful Cincinnati offense to just one run on seven hits while striking out seven in 7.1 innings pitched in WVU’s 9-2 win in game two. Here is your Big East Recap for May 2nd.

Cincinnati 4 South Florida 2

TAMPA, Fla. – Senior Michael Hill (Proctorville, Ohio/Fairland) pitched eight innings and struck out eight men leading the University of Cincinnati baseball team to a 4-2 win over USF Saturday night at Red McEwen Field. The UC win handed USF its first home loss in conference play. Senior Jake Geglein (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) entered the game in the ninth inning and retired the side in order earning his seventh save of the season. TAMPA – The league-leading University of South Florida baseball team continued their winning ways Friday night beating Cincinnati 8-2.

QUEENS, N.Y. – Sophomore Joe Panik had five RBI and two of St. John’s five home runs in a 16-8 victory against Cincinnati. Greg Hopkins, Joe Witkowski and Tim Morris each added home runs and every Red Storm starter had at least one hit. Hopkins had three RBI, while Morris and Witkowski added two apiece to lead St. John’s (20-13, 9-5). Bruce Kern (3-2) earned the win, tallying 10 strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work. T.J.
