NORRISTOWN, Pa. – Sophomore lefthander Randy Mower dazzled for nine innings as the Saint Joseph’s baseball team earned a 3-0 shutout win over Temple on Saturday afternoon. It is the first complete game shutout by an SJU pitcher since Al Braun blanked Duquesne, 7-0, on May 20, 2005.
Saint Joseph’s (9-15, 2-3 Atlantic 10) finally broke through in the bottom of the fifth inning, taking a 3-0 lead. A bunt single by Matt Barnathan and a pair of errors left the Hawks with runners on second and third with nobody out. Northeastern 4 Western Michigan 2
The Northeastern University baseball team defeated the Western Michigan Broncos 4-2 on Thursday afternoon at IMG Academies in Bradenton, Fla. Sophomore Charly Bashara improved to 1-0 on the season after outdueling the Broncos’ Ethan Hollingsworth.
Bashara finished with a final line of six innings, four hits, one earned run, four strikeouts and no walks, making it the second straight day that the Huskies were able to silence the heavy-hitting Bronco lineup. Senior Bobby Carrington was strong for out of the ‘pen for the Huskies, tossing three scoreless innings to pick up the save. Read the rest of this entry »

Kyle Davis had a pinch hit bases loaded single in the bottom of the ninth to lead the Delaware Blue Hens to the walk-off 9-8 victory over St. Joseph’s. David Slovak picked up the win after pitching the top of the ninth in which he gave up a run. The win was Slovak’s first of the season while Chris Prescott picks up his third loss of the season. Delaware will be back in action on Friday when Hofstra visits town.

The A-10 Conference has released their 2007 Pre-Season Baseball Poll. They have picked Charlotte to win the title behind third baseman Aaron Bray’s potent bat. The defending champion St. Louis and URI round out the top three. It should be an interesting season in the A-10 conference like usual and the full press release on the poll is available here.
