The College Baseball Blog recently had the opportunity to talk with Jordan Wyckoff who completed his second season with the Franklin and Marshall College Diplomats. He just finished his summer coaching in the Alaskan Baseball League where he served as an assistant coach for the Mat-Su Miners. OTTAWA - Terry McKaig, Team Leader and Head Coach of Team Canada’s (CIS) World University Baseball Games team is pleased to announce the 22 student-athletes that will be participating in the 4th World University Baseball Games Tournament. The Canadian team is made up of student-athletes who participated in the CIS (OUA), NAIA and NCAA.
“I feel very confident that we will make a run for the medal podium with the group of talented student-athletes that we were able to assemble in such a short time,” said McKaig. While the breakdown of student-athletes is mostly based in the USA, six members of the University of British Columbia’s squad, who play in the NAIA, and two student-athletes from the OUA (Ontario) one from the University of Guelph and the University of Waterloo will represent Canadian based schools. Ga Tech 11 Coastal Carolina 4
ATLANTA - Derek Dietrich collected three hits and drove in five runs to lead Georgia Tech (33-14) to an 11-4 victory over No. 15 Coastal Carolina (38-11) Sunday afternoon at Russ Chandler Stadium. The win helped Tech to its second-straight weekend series victory after defeating Wake Forest in two of three games a week ago.
Dietrich drove in runs in the first, fifth, sixth and eighth innings and hit his 14th home run of the season as the Yellow Jackets pushed their streak to 15-consecutive games with a home run. Dietrich is the only freshman in the Atlantic Coast Conference with more than 10 home runs this season and leads all freshmen while standing second in the league with 56 RBI on the year. Pinch-hitter Harry Darling was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th inning to plate Eric Campbell with the winning run as the Eagles defeated Maryland, 5-4.

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - Junior second baseman Jemile Weeks set a new school record with his 18th career triple and freshman lefty Chris Hernandez won for the eighth time as No. 1 Miami won its 11th straight Friday night game with a 10-2 win over St. Mary’s (Calif.) in the first of a three game nonconference series at Mark Light Field. Weeks, Yonder Alonso, Dennis Raben and Adan Severino combined to go 9-for-14 with six RBI and eight runs scored as Miami (37-5) scored at least 10 runs for the 19th time season. The West Coast Conference announced the 2008 Preseason Conference Poll as selected by the coaches. San Diego is selected to finish in first place as they received seven out of a possible eight first place votes with Santa Clara getting the other one. Pepperdine comes in second place followed by Santa Clara in third place. The conference should be decided by these three schools as they all return veteran squads. The rest of the poll is filled with LMU, Gonzaga, San Francisco, Portland, and St. Mary’s. The full press release is available by clicking here.
