Missouri State Releases Baseball Schedule for 2009

The 2009 Missouri State baseball schedule has been completed and includes a total of 55 games as the Bears move into their sixth season at Hammons Field. The schedule features 26 home dates and 29 road games, 15 games against teams that qualified for the 2008 NCAA Tournament and a three-games series with 2006 and 2007 national champion Oregon State.

Longhorns announce fall Baseball schedule

Texas hosts games against Rice (10/19) and Texas State (11/02) and travels to Baylor (10/12) and Rice (10/26).

he Texas Longhorns will play four fall baseball games this season, including a pair at The Dell Diamond in nearby Round Rock, the team announced on Thursday.

The Longhorns host Rice on Sunday, Oct. 19 at 1:30 p.m. and Texas State on Sunday, Nov. 2 at 12 p.m.

The University of Oklahoma baseball team reported for the first team practice of the fall semester on Thursday, Sept. 4.

The Sooners return seven position starters and 18 letterwinners overall from the 2008 team that advanced to the Tempe Regional Finals before falling to then-No. 4 Arizona State. Among those starters are Aaron Baker, Matt Harughty, Bryant Hernandez, Casey Johnson, Jamie Johnson, Tyson Seng and J.T. Wise.

Canada leads 1-0 after one inning.Canada’s run came on an RBI double by Emerson Frostad (Lewis-Clark State).

8:15 PM PDT: Canada leads 3-0 after two innings. Emmanuel Garcia hit an RBI triple, then scored on a ground out by Michael Saunders.

8:35 PM: Canada leads 4-0 after three innings, and they are hitting Anderson at will. The fourth run came from an RBI single by Adam Stern (Nebraska). Great defensive play by Stubby Clapp (Texas Tech) at second base in the bottom of the third.

9 PM: Canada leads 4-2 after four innings. USA got on the board with a home run by Brian Barden (Oregon State), got the second run on an RBI single by John Gall (Stanford). Avery was replaced by R.J. Swindle (Charleston Southern). Read the rest of this entry »

The USA Olympic Team will begin play on Wednesday August 13th when they open up round robin play against South Korea. It will be the first game in the Olympics for Team USA since their Gold Medal victory over Cuba in the 2000 Olympics behind the right arm of Ben Sheets. We break down the position players today with some background information. We will be checking out the pitchers on Sunday as we continue our preview of Team USA. I know we don’t cover Minor League baseball in general but the 2008 USA Baseball Team was announced today with a bunch of players with collegiate experience in the last few seasons including one player who will be entering his junior season at San Diego State in the fall. The Georgia Bulldogs defeated Stanford 10-8 on Saturday afternoon to advance to the College World Series championship series which starts on Monday. The Bulldogs finished 3-0 in bracket one defeating Miami 7-4, Stanford 4-3 and then defeating Stanford again today 10-8. The Bulldogs will face the winner of the North Carolina/Fresno State bracket. UNC must defeat Fresno State twice to advance to the championship series while Fresno State can secure their spot in an all Bulldog championship series with a single victory.

OMAHA, Neb. – After allowing two hits to the first two hitters of the game, Stanford pitchers did not allow another hit until the sixth inning and the Cardinal picked up an 8-3 victory over Miami (Fla.) in an elimination game Tuesday at the Men’s College World Series.

Stanford (41-23-2) advances to play Georgia Friday at 1 p.m. The Miami season ends at 53-11 and marks the ninth-straight year that the top overall national seed will not win the national championship. Read the rest of this entry »

Here is your recap of Day 3 in the College World Series. We saw in the losers bracket where the Miami (FL) Hurricanes beating FSU 7-5 eliminating the Noles from the tournament. In the winner’s bracket matchup, Georgia knocked off Stanford 4-3 behind a two run seventh inning to give the Bulldogs the lead for good. Stanford and Miami will face off on Wednesday at 7 pm EDT.

StanfordThe Stanford Cardinal broke open a 5-5 tie with 11 runs in the top of the ninth inning to take the opening game against Florida State in the College World Series.

The Cardinal struck first taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth and then added two more runs in the top of the sixth to go ahead 3-0. Florida State answered with two runs to close the gap to 3-2 before Stanford scored two runs in the top of the seventh to stretch the lead back to three runs at 5-2. Florida State answered with a three run rally in the bottom of the eighth inning to tie the game at 5.

Stanford then exploded for 11 runs in the top of the ninth inning to send the Seminoles to the losers’ bracket.

After losing the first game of the Palo Alto Regional to UC Davis, Stanford won 4 straight, including 2 games over Pepperdine. They won the Fullerton Super Regional in consecutive games with solid pitching and timely hitting, winning by scores of 4-3 and 8-5. Stanford dropped many games they should have won late in the season, losing to Santa Clara, UC Davis, University of San Francisco, and then dropping consecutive series to Cal and Arizona, and were at one point 3 outs away from being upset by UC Davis in an elimination game before their bats came alive. Fullerton, Calif. - Jason Castro’s 3-run double in the sixth inning broke a 5-5 tie and carried Stanford to an 8-5 victory Saturday night over Cal State Fullerton for the championship of the NCAA Super Regional and a berth in the College World Series.

Austin Yount (6-3) allowed only two runs (one earned) in 5.1 innings of relief to get the victory, Stanford’s (39-22-2) fifth in five tries over the Titans (41-22) this season. Reliever Jason Dovel (3-4) was charged with the three decisive runs and took the loss before a sellout crowd of 3,415.
