Share Stanford’s Toby Gerhart is skipping his final year of football eligibility in the fall by withdrawing from school to focus his efforts on preparing for the 2010 NFL Draft. Gerhart was also a member of the Cardinal baseball team for the last three season as he appeared in 55 games during the 2009 season hitting .288 with seven homers and 36 RBI.

Share Toby Gerhart has a tough decision coming his way. A star baseball player for Stanford, Gerhart is also making a lot of noise as a running back for the Cardinal football team this season. Gerhart ranks near the top in touchdowns and rushing yards so far this season, with whispers about a chance at the Heisman, but he has also finished the 2009 spring as one of Stanford’s top baseball players.

Share Stanford fullback/outfielder Toby Gerhart has been outstanding on the football field as he has 29 career touchdowns which is second all-time. He is also third on the rushing yardage list with 2,645 yards which is only 295 behind Brad Muster for the record. Gerhart has also been solid on the baseball diamond as he has hit .274 with 16 homers and 68 RBI over his first three seasons. He has stated that his dream is to play in the NFL but might have also have a chance to play in the Majors.

Share Baseball America has put out their incoming 2010 Recruiting Class Rankings which are led by the University of Florida. Stanford comes in at the runner up spot with Arizona State, TCU, and Cal-State Fullerton completing the Top 5.

Share Kendall Rogers of Rivals.com continues his series of articles on conferences across the country heading into Fall Practice. Today, he checks in on the Pac-10 conference which he states is looking to rebuild after Arizona State made the College World Series last season. After the Sun Devils, there was a significant drop-off in the conference with Washington State coming in second place.

STANFORD, Calif.– Stanford Baseball released its 2010 schedule, featuring 32 of its 56 regular season games at home, including three-game non-conference series with perennial playoff teams, Rice, Texas, Pepperdine and Long Beach State, as well as five of the nine Pac-10 series at Sunken Diamond.
Stanford finished the 2009 season 30-25 in Mark Marquess’ 33rd season. The Cardinal have played in 14 College World Series, won 20 conference championships and have featured 82 players all-time in the Major Leagues—including 11 this year.
The Cardinal open up the season with Super Regional team, Rice, from February 19 to 21.

STANFORD, Calif.– Stanford Baseball announced the hiring of 16-year coaching veteran Rusty Filter as the team’s assistant and pitching coach. Filter, who tutored 2009 National Player of the Year Stephen Strasburg, takes over for Dave Nakama, who was named the top assistant at the University of Washington.
"We are really excited for Coach Filter to join our staff," said Head Coach Mark Marquess, who will be entering his 34th season in 2010. "We are fortunate to get a coach with his talent and experience to come aboard. I think our pitchers will truly benefit from his pitching philosophy."

SEATTLE – New University of Washington baseball coach Linsday Meggs announced his first hiring today as Dave Nakama has been named his top assistant coach.
Nakama, who comes to Seattle from Pac-10 rival Stanford, will coordinate all the hitting, assist with team defense and oversee outfielders. He’ll begin working immediately. He and Coach Meggs crossed paths in the Northern California Division II ranks when they coached at San Francisco State and Chico State, respectively.
