Hatter fans will be very pleased to hear that Stetson Athletics Director Jeff Altier has announced that the contract of Head Baseball Coach Pete Dunn has been extended through the 2013 season.
“We are very pleased to announce that Coach Dunn will be with us for at least another five years,” said Altier. “His record and his accomplishments here at Stetson speak for themselves.” Read the rest of this entry »

Share All Things Valley League has put together a Top 15 of the best hitters in the league during the 2008 season. The list is led by Florida International’s Tyler Townsend who had an outstanding summer with Winchester. He finished the season with a .387 average with 12 homers and 36 RBI in only 42 games. He also stole 14 bases in 17 attempts. Brandon Sizemore of College of Charleston comes in the runners up spot. He had a .377 average with 10 homers and 34 RBI. The rest of the top 5 is filled out by Marcus Nidfiffer (Kentucky), Drew Johnson (San Francisco), and Mickey Wiswall (Boston College). After four years as Stetson’s pitching coach Garrett Quinn has resigned so that he can accept the same position at Liberty University.
In his four years handling the pitching staff for Stetson Quinn has coached two All-Americans, seven All-Conference performers, and nine A-Sun Pitchers of the Week. The Hatters finished this past season 7th in the Atlantic Sun in ERA at 5.68. The staff was led by junior Andy Maudlin who was 1st in the conference in wins with seven and 4th in ERA at 3.61.

Kentucky 2 Western Kentucky 1
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Collin Cowgill and Ryan Wilkes delivered solo home runs, lifting the 17th-ranked Kentucky Wildcats to a 2-1 victory over state rival Western Kentucky – sweeping the two-game season series – in front of a WKU school-record 3,057 fans at Nick Denes Field.
Kentucky (31-10, 9-9 Southeastern Conference) got the only two runs it needed from Cowgill and Wilkes. Cowgill’s home run was his 16th of the season, good for second in the NCAA, three behind Georgia shortstop Gordon Beckham’s 19 homers on the year. Oklahoma 5 TCU 4 (12 innings)
FORT WORTH, Texas – For the second straight contest, the TCU Horned Frogs found themselves trailing heading into the ninth inning only to rally to tie the game. This time the Frogs needed three runs to tie the game at four, but Oklahoma broke the tie in the 12th inning to take a 5-4 victory Tuesday night at Lupton Stadium. The loss snaps the Horned Frogs’ nine-game winning streak and is just their first loss in the month of April. Read the rest of this entry »

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Freshman catcher Yasmani Grandal drove in the game-winning run after junior Dave DiNatale hit a two-run game-tying single in the bottom of the eighth as No. 2 Miami rallied to defeat Bethune-Cookman, 7-6, Wednesday night at Mark Light Field. Eric Sorensen previews the ACC which he lists North Carolina, UVA, and Miami as favorites. He lists FSU, Clemson, and Georgia Tech as contenders. He puts Wake Forest as the darkhouse. The full preview is available here. Sorensen also previews the Atlantic Sun conference. He puts Stetson as the overwhelming favorite after they qualified for the 2007 NCAA Tournament. MACON, Ga. – Stetson is the overwhelming favorite to repeat as Atlantic Sun Conference baseball champion in 2008 in the league’s preseason poll. The Hatters garnered eight of 12 first place votes in the poll conducted among the conference’s head coaches. Hatter outfielder Justin Bass and Lipscomb catcher Caleb Joseph split preseason Player of the Year honors, while Lipscomb’s Rex Brothers claimed Pitcher of the Year honors.
