December 16, 2008 – The Texas Collegiate League today announced the schedule for its sixth season. The 48-game campaign will open on Friday, June 5, with the regular season concluding on Saturday, August 8.

The season will kick off with the defending champion McKinney Marshals playing host to the Brazos Valley Bombers in a rematch of their tightly contested first-round playoff series last year. The next night, the Bombers will visit the Coppell Copperheads, last year’s runner-up and the 2007 TCL champion.

Pitching Coach- Stan Phelps - UT-Tyler

Stan Phelps and Wes Davis, assistant coaches for The University of Texas at Tyler baseball team, were named the coaches of the year in their respective minor leagues following the completion of the 2008 season.

Phelps, who served as head coach of the East Texas Pump Jacks, earned the honor in the Texas Collegiate League, while Davis picked-up the nod in the Coastal Plain League for his work as head coach with the Florence RedWolves.

Mike Ford pitched a complete-game shutout to win his third game of the tournament and Andre Miller drove in both runs as the Santa Barbara (CA) Foresters shut out the Seattle (WA) Studs 2-0 to in the championship of the 74th National Baseball World Series.

The Foresters (7-0) won their second title in the past three years; like in 2006, Santa Barbara went undefeated in winning the title.

Semifinal:Seattle Wins Rematch With Beatrice; Earns Another With Santa Barbara In Finals

The semifinal game of the 74th National Baseball Congress World Series pitted two teams that met in the fourth round of the tournament: Seattle (WA) and Beatrice (NE).The Studs won the first meeting on Aug. 11 (2-0), and they prevailed in this one 4-1 to reach the championship round. Seattle will visit again with Santa Barbara (CA), a team they lost to 11-5 on Aug. 12.
