The Associated Press is reporting that Oregon State outfielder John Wallace and former OSU pitcher Anton Maxwell have been sentenced to 15 days of jail after a shooting incident. Both of them plead guilty to the charge of recklessly endangering another while a third person Jorge Reyes who is also a pitcher will enter into a plea agreement on August 26th at his next court appearance. Darren Heitner of Sports Agent Blog continues his great work on the Andrew Oliver situation that exploded over the weekend. He ended up getting a ton of information forwarded to him from many different sources to get down to exactly what happened which saw Oliver end up suspended from the Oklahoma State team indefinitely. Sophomore pitcher Andrew Oliver who was the ace of the Oklahoma State staff was ruled ineligible over the weekend making the Cowboys play the Stillwater Regional without their number 1 starter (OK State was eliminated last night by Wichita State). The reasons for his eligibility to be called into question are not clear but good friend Darren Heitner of The Sports Agent Blog talks about it the situation here.

CORVALLIS, Oregon (Ticker) — Oregon State suspended two players Thursday, including last season’s Most Outstanding Player from the College World Series, for the upcoming three-game series with Pepperdine. Jason Jarvis has been ruled ineligible for the rest of the season per NCAA rules. This stems from questions over a online grade being lowered.

Jarvis of Scottsdale appealed an academic dishonesty accusation that led to an online grade being lowered. He was ineligible for the first game of the season then allowed to play through Tuesday. The appeal was heard Thursday.

The Arizona State Sun Devils have lost Jason Jarvis and Devin Fuller are currently ineligible for the upcoming season due to academic issues. Both pitchers were expected to be major contributers in the rotation or the back end of the bullpen.  Jarvis is facing issues with a fall grade that is unresolved which might keep the pitcher out for the year. Fuller will be out for the season as Pat Murphy says “He learned a freshman lesson.” The other player who is ineligible is walk-on Hayden Moss. According to an article from The Daily Illini and confirmed by Dan Hartleb, Tanner Roark has been left off the 2008 baseball squad do to academic issues. This is a huge loss for Illinois as he was expected to lead the rotation in 2008 after a respectable season which saw him tie for the conference lead in wins with six. The NCAA has suspended three Nebraska baseball players after trading baseball bats for store credits. Andy Gerch took the biggest hit as he will be suspended for the first 12 games of the 2008 season while Craig Corriston will be missing the first six games. The NCAA has also suspended Jeff Lanning for six games as he has recently transferred to New Orleans for next season. Mike Anderson said that the players could face discipline from the university also. The full article is available from the AP here.

The South Carolina Gamecocks have kicked Lonnie Chisenhall and Nick Fuller off the team. Both players are in some trouble with the law which Head Coach Ray Tanner will not divulge. There are news reports in South Carolina stating that both players are facing burglary and grand larceny charges. It is sad to see College kids making mistakes like this but hopefully it teaches these two young men a lesson.
