Georgia sophomore shortstop/second baseman Levi Hyams was arrested on Saturday morning at 12:53 am for underage possession of alcohol, giving false information, and possession of a fraudulent ID. Hyams was seen by a police officer scaling a fence at the UGA Campus Transit facility when the officer investigated found Hyams hiding in some bushes. Coach Dave Perno declined comment to the Athens-Banner Herald about the situation. According to UGA Athletic Association rules, he faces a suspension of 10 percent of his teams games which comes out to 5 or 6.

I got an email today from Richard Johnson who is the attorney for Andrew Oliver in his case against the NCAA. He states in his email the the courts have dismissed the NCAA’s appeal of the declaratory judgment and permanent injunction against Andrew Oliver. The trial court on March 31st has set a trial date of October 19th to hear Andrew’s case against the NCAA for the remaining breach of contract and tortious interference with contract claims.

The interesting part of this email is the NCAA’s response to the injunction which was put into favor to let Andrew Oliver particpate in College Baseball. The NCAA states that the injuction has affected every single player in College Sports by having an agent represent them in negoations. You can check out the full PDF file by clicking here. Senior LHP Stephen Locke has been added back to the Florida roster after having his charges for DUI dropped. He made his season debut last night against North Florida where he worked the first two innings where he allowed one unearned run on a single hit. Read the rest of this entry »

Oklahoma State junior LHP Andrew Oliver won his case against the NCAA so he will be eligible for the 2009 season for the Cowboys. Senior RHP Bobby Gagg has been granted a waiver by the Big South conference making him eligible for the 2009 season. He has a career record of 22-6 with a 2.90 ERA and 187 strikeouts in 273.1 innings over his first three seasons with the Chanticleers. His true breakout season was in 2007 when he went 12-2 with a 2.57 ERA and 84 strikeouts. He picked up Big South Pitcher of the Year and was named a Second-team All-American by Collegiate Baseball. Stephen Locke has been kicked off the University of Florida baseball team according to a report by the St. Petersburg Times. Locke picked up a DUI charge early on Saturday and was released on his own recognizance while being told to not drink or drive until his next court date. Read the rest of this entry »

GatorSports.com is reporting that senior lefthanded pitcher Stephen Locke has been charged with a DUI after being arrested early Sunday morning. According to the police report, Locke was seen in a black Mercury SUV crossing a double solid yellow line nearly missing on-coming traffic. The officer pulled over the vehicle where Locke had a strong smell of alcohol and had to use his vehicle to steady himself as he left it. Locke then proceeded to refuse to take a sobriety test which caused him to be taken into custody and taken to the Alachua County jail. Read the rest of this entry »

Yesterday, we saw the news that Texas suspended legendary head coach Augie Garrido for the first four games of the 2009 season after picking up a DWI last week. I believe this is absolutely a horrible decision by the University of Texas to only suspend him for those games. The Andrew Oliver case against the NCAA finished yesterday January 13th according to court records obtained by The College Baseball Blog. The judge ended up taking the case under advisement and ordered both parties to file findings of fact and conclusions of law by January 23rd. After that, he will deliberate the case and issue an opinion in a week or two. We should see a decision at the end of January or at the beginning of February. Read the rest of this entry »
