Share The Tennessee Volunteers have released their 2010 schedule. The 56 game slate has the Vols playing thirty five home games, including fifteen home SEC contests. The Vols will begin the season at home against 2009 Regional participant Xavier (Feb. 19-21). The non-conference portion of the schedule is highlighted by two tournaments in Knoxville, one in which the Volunteers will host Binghamton and Kennesaw State (March 5-7) and the other in which Tennessee hosts Connecticut, Ohio State, and Marshall (March 12-14).

Share The city of Monroe LA is building a new baseball field for the Monroe School District which College Baseball HOF inductee Wilbert Ellis showing his support for the field. He believes that this project should increase the African-American participation numbers which are clearly down at all levels of baseball especially college. It is coming to be a rare site to see an African-American playing baseball as we continue to see the increase in showcases and other forms of elite amateur baseball play.

With Texas locking up the Big 12 regular season championship last weekend, it’s a battle for second place in the conference this weekend. Oklahoma and Texas A&M both sit at 14-10 in conference play, and the two teams face off in Norman this weekend with a potential NCAA host spot on the line. CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College baseball team earned its spot in the 2009 ACC Championship with a 3-1 win against No. 4 North Carolina on Thursday at Eddie Pellagrini Diamond at Commander Shea Field.

We enter the final weekend of ACC play with four squads fighting it out for the last two spots in the conference tournament. Boston College and Duke are currently in the drivers seats for the final two spots as each of them would have to get swept over the weekend for either NC State or Virginia Tech to make the tournament. The final weekend sees five ACC series while Florida State steps out of conference with a series against Grambling State. The North Carolina Tar Heels make their second trip to Boston College in a key series for the Eagles. Georgia Tech heads to Duke which is key for both squads as the Yellow Jackets are trying to hold off the North Carolina Tar Heels for the Coastal Division title. The battle of Virginia takes place this weekend in Blacksburg with Virginia Tech hosting the Virginia Cavaliers. The Big 12 had six teams in action on Wednesday. The conference had a pretty good showing on the day, going 4-2 overall with some blowout wins. Here is Wednesday’s Big 12 recap.
#11 Baylor 14, Prairie View A&M 1
WACO, Texas — Seventh-ranked Baylor sent 15 batters to the plate in an 11-run first inning and coasted to a 14-1, seven-inning victory over Prairie View A&M in midweek action Wednesday night at Baylor Ballpark. Baylor (18-7) improved to 5-0 all-time against Prairie View A&M (15-14) with the win.
Baylor’s 11-run first inning was one run shy of the school record for first-inning runs. The Bears enjoyed a 12-run first inning in the second game of a doubleheader March 17, 1986, against Dallas Baptist. Read the rest of this entry »

Ohio State, ranked 16th in the Collegiate Baseball poll, improves to 18-3 with the win while Miami, No. 2 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association poll, falls to 18-5.
