AUSTIN, Texas – Freshman Taylor Jungmann allowed two hits over six innings Monday night and top-seeded Texas earned its first trip to the College World Series since 2005 with a 5-2 win over TCU.

Kevin Keyes homered in the first inning for the Longhorns (46-14-1), who have won six national championships. Jungmann struck out five and walked one in picking up his eighth win of the season before being replaced by Austin Wood in the bottom of the seventh. Read the rest of this entry »

AUSTIN, Texas – The No. 10 TCU Horned Frogs staved off elimination and forced a game three with a 3-2 victory over No. 4 Texas Sunday afternoon at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. For the first time in school history, the Frogs will play in a Super Regional Championship game which is slated for a 6 p.m. start Monday and will be aired live on ESPN2. AUSTIN, Texas – Michael Torres hit two home runs and had four RBIs to lead top-seeded Texas past TCU 10-4 on Saturday night in the opening game of the best-of-three super regional series.

Torres, who was 4 for 5, hit a solo home run in the second inning, giving the Longhorns (45-13-1) a 3-1 lead. His 3-run homer in the seventh broke the game open, giving Texas a 10-4 lead. Read the rest of this entry »

The Texas Longhorns will meet the TCU Horned Frogs in the Austin Super Regional.  Both teams swept their way through regional play to earn their spots in this weekend’s Super Regional play.  Texas used late inning heroics to take a 25 inning marathon from Boston College and a walk-off grand slam to seal the regional championship against Army.  TCU went relatively untested in their first two games of regional play before a come-from-behind victory over Oregon State won the regional and advanced them to the Super Regionals.

The series will begin Saturday at 5 p.m. CT at UFCU Disch-Falk Field and will be aired on ESPNU.  Read the rest of this entry »

The early game of the day was the loser’s bracket championship game between Oregon State and Texas A&M, with a spot in the regional final on the line.  The Beavers scored six in the first inning and never looked back, solidifying their spot in the night game against TCU.  Here is your day 3 recap for the Fort Worth Regional.

Texas Christian University hosts the 2009 Fort Worth Regional in what looks like one of the more wide open regionals of the tournament.  The Horned Frogs meet the Wright State Raiders at 7 p.m. CT on Friday.  The two teams take the field after game one of the tournament which will see the two seed Texas A&M Aggies take on the three seed Oregon State Beavers at 2 p.m. CT.

Play will continue on Saturday with the first elimination game scheduled for 2 p.m. CT, followed by the winner’s bracket championship game at 7 p.m. CT.  The 2 p.m. game on Sunday will be the loser’s bracket championship game, and the 7 p.m. CT game will be the first championship contest.  Read the rest of this entry »

The NCAA has released the 2009 regional host sites.  The ACC earned four regional hosts: Clemson, Georgia Tech, Florida State, and North Carolina.  Florida, LSU, and Ole Miss will be hosting from the SEC.  The Big 12 will have Texas and Oklahoma as hosts, and Conference USA will also have two hosts: Rice and East Carolina.  Cal State Fullerton and UC Irvine will host out of the Big West.  Read the rest of this entry »

AUSTIN, Texas – The No. 8 Texas Longhorns demonstrated their offensive firepower with a season-high runs total to defeat the Texas State Bobcats, 12-2, in non-conference baseball action Tuesday night at UFCU Disch-Falk field.

The Longhorns were led offensively by freshman Kevin Lusson who went 4-for-4 and with a walk on the night and scored five runs. Lusson had two doubles and two RBI. All of these numbers were career-highs for the Austin native.
