PHILADELPHIA (12/4/08) – Temple head baseball coach Rob Valli has announced the signing of seven student-athletes, Ryan Casey (Manchester, NJ / Manchester Twp. / Brookdale CC), Dan Dragos (Beltsville, MD / DeMatha Catholic), David Hall (Commack, NY / Commack), Henry Knabe (Califon, NJ / Immaculata), Ryan Kuehn (Lehighton, PA / Lehighton), Jimmy Powers (Jamesport, NY / Riverhead), and Elijah Yarborough (North Brunswick, NJ / North Brunswick) to National Letters of Intent. AMBLER, PA – Junior Ryan Thomas won two games on the mound, striking out nine batters in six innings, to earn MVP honors for the Cherry team in a 4-2 series victory over White in the Temple Baseball Fall Classic, contested over the past two weeks at Skip Wilson Field. PHILADELPHIA – Greg Lemon, a former Division III All-American and currently a professional baseball player, has been named an assistant baseball coach at Temple, head coach Rob Valli announced today. Lemon, who recently finished his second season with the St. George Roadrunners of the Golden Baseball League, spent last spring as an assistant coach at Georgetown. He will work specifically with the infielders and coach first base at TU.

Cory Barton Hired as Assistant Baseball Coach at ULM
Cory Barton has been named assistant baseball coach at ULM, head coach Jeff Schexnaider announced on Tuesday. Barton’s hire is pending approval by the University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors.
Barton joins the Warhawk staff after two seasons as an assistant coach at Memphis and a two-year playing career with the Tigers.

Brandon Anderson Named Assistant Baseball Coach At Temple
PHILADELPHIA – Brandon Anderson, an All-American and professional baseball player who played two seasons at Gloucester County College under current Temple head coach Rob Valli, has been named an assistant baseball coach for the Owls. Anderson is currently in his second season playing professional baseball for the Kalamazoo Kings of the Frontier League.
“Brandon has always been an extremely talented and highly motivated student of the game, so his transition from player to coach should be easy,” Valli said. “He will be an excellent coach and role model for our team.”

NEWARK, DE – Thirteen Blue Hens recorded at least one hit and five cracked home runs as the University of Delaware baseball team stormed past Temple, 22-4, at Bob Hannah Stadium on a warm Wednesday afternoon.
Scott Shockley and Pat Dameron (at right) both had three hits and a home run, while Jared Olson, Bill Merkler, and Josh Dean each chipped in with two hits and a long ball. Ryan Cuneo also extended his hitting streak to 21 games with a sixth-inning double. Read the rest of this entry »

Spokane, Wash. (http://www.gozags.com May 3, 2008) Jason Chatwood hit a solo walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth for Gonzaga University Saturday as the Bulldogs defeated the University of San Francisco 6-5 at Patterson Baseball Complex and Washington Trust Field in Spokane, Wash. The three-game West Coast Conference series between the Zags and Dons is now tied 1-1.
After surrendering a game tying run in the top of the ninth, Gonzaga (28-19, 8-8) entered its half of the ninth inning with the scored knotted at five. The leadoff batter in the inning flied out for the first out of the inning, before Chatwood stepped in. The junior then hit a one-run home run just over the leftfield wall to give the Bulldogs the 6-5 victory. The walk-off was the first of the season for GU and the first since Mark Castellitto’s walk-off against Loyola Marymount University last season. Read the rest of this entry »
