Some schools will send out a press releases when they have everybody signed and some will send out multiple releases when they have received the LOIs. Today that is what I will be working on. Gathering all those press releases with one or two signings and then posting them here in this article. If you have one that we have not posted please let us know and we will be more than happy to put the info out.

Meade Tenth Player to sign with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi

South Carolina Baseball Announces 2008 Signing Class
The University of South Carolina baseball program has announced the signing of 12 student-athletes to National Letters of Intent during the November early signing period. The class includes five players from the South Carolina Diamond Devils AAU squad that won a pair of national championships this summer as well as the top rated high school players out of the states of North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Virginia. It consists of 10 high school players as well as two junior college standouts.

The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team put the final touches on its fall practice slate over the weekend with second annual Blue-Grey Classic at Chapman Field. The Blue team came out victorious in all three games with each game decided by no more than two runs.
In the opening game, the Blue rallied from a 3-0 deficit to knock off the Grey 7-5. Blue starter Andrew Toppert gave up three runs in the top of the first but then settled in and did not allow another run over his final five innings of work. In six innings, he pitched six innings and gave up three runs on six hits with four strikeouts and no walks. Brett Gibson got the last five outs for the save.

With the start of the 2008-09 academic year, a group of 16 athletes has arrived on the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi campus to join the Islander baseball program. Recently, head coach Scott Malone commented on each of the newcomers:

“Brett had a tremendous season at Wharton this past season. It was exciting to see Brett pitch at the top of the rotation all year. We hope he can make the transition to D1 and do the same for us.”

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi head baseball coach Scott Malone recently announced the addition of three new members of his Islander coaching staff for the upcoming season.
Joining the staff are former UTSA standout Josh Blakley as a volunteer assistant coach, Estevan Vasquez as the director of baseball operations and former Islander player Chase Wheaton as a student assistant coach.

The 2008 Capital One/Southland Conference All-Academic Baseball Teams were released today by the league office as Texas State sophomore first baseman Paul Goldschmidt was voted Student-Athlete of the year.
A native of The Woodlands, Texas, Goldschmidt’s accomplishments off the field are as stellar as his achievements in the classroom. While maintaining a 3.82 grade point average in finance, Goldschmidt led the league in home runs (17), garnering the 2008 SLC Hitter of the Year award, falling one round tripper shy of tying Texas State’s single-season record. FRISCO, Texas - For the second consecutive season the UTSA Roadrunners have clinched the top spot in the Southland Conference Tournament. UTSA locked up the number one seed defeating league rival Nicholls State, 5-2 on Sunday, May 11, marking the program’s second regular-season title in school history, and the first team to win consecutive titles since Lamar in 2003-04. UTSA makes its fourth straight league tournament appearance and won 38 games this season, the most since joining the Southland Conference in 1992, and the Roadrunners 111 wins over the past three seasons leads the SLC.
The first round opponent for UTSA was not decided until the last day of the regular season as Southeastern Louisiana took two of three in Nicholls State giving the Lions the seventh overall seed, moving Texas A&M-Corpus Christi into the eighth seed to face UTSA in the opening round in the Islanders first Southland Conference Baseball Tournament appearance.

Lamar did exactly what it needed to do on Saturday in preparation for the upcoming Southland Conference Tournament. Head coach Jim Gilligan used six pitchers and got enough out of them while producing enough offense for a 2-1 win over McNeese State for a series sweep and a three-game winning streak heading into Wednesday’s tourney-opener. Austin outfielder Kevin Crabtree, A&M-Corpus Christi catcher Stephen Flora earn co-hitter of the week honors and SFA pitcher Lance Luetge is awarded his first honor of the season. FRISCO, Texas – The Southland Conference Baseball players of the week were named today by the conference office as Stephen F. Austin outfielder Kevin Crabtree and A&M-Corpus Christi pitcher Omar Gutierrez are awarded weekly honors. Crabtree claims his second award on the year joining Mike Jaworski, Northwestern State, Trent Lockwood, UTSA and teammate Noel Trevino as the only players in the SLC to receive two player of the week awards. Gutierrez receives his first award of the season and the Islander’s third.
