(Victoria, TX) The Victoria Generals have announced the re-signing of two more stand-out players from their inaugural season. Third baseman Brian Nephew and left-handed pitcher Covey Morrow are set to return to help the Generals defend their regular season championship crown.

It’s never too early to think about next year… especially when you have a few all-stars already in the fold.
The East Texas Pump Jacks announced today that second baseman Greg Fontenot and outfielder Russell LaFleur have agreed to return to East Texas for the 2010 season. Both players were named to the 2009 TCL All-League team and helped lead the Jacks to a second place finish this summer.

DURHAM, N.C.–Mississippi and Washington State lead all schools by placing five players apiece on Baseball America’s top prospects lists for 18 different summer college leagues and Team USA. Last summer, Louisiana State and Texas each led the nation with five players apiece on BA’s summer league lists, and those two teams wound up facing off for the national championship at the College World Series.
BA ranked the top 30 prospects for the talent-rich Cape Cod League, and the top 10 prospects in 17 other summer college leagues. In addition, the top 20 Team USA prospects were ranked.

Share August 14th- For the 3rd time in their six year history, the Coppell Copperheads were crowned Texas Collegiate League Champions on Friday night. With a one game lead in the best-of-three championship series, the Copperheads traveled to Victoria where they defeated the league’s number one seed, 13-11, to clinch the 2009 Championship.

Share August 13- If the fences at The Snake Pit in Coppell, Texas were 337 feet, Generals 1B Mike Davis (Lambuth) would’ve given Victoria a 7-5 lead with a grand slam in the top of the 9th. Fortunately for the Copperheads, the fences measured up to 340 feet, giving Copperheads CF James Foster (Wofford) just enough room to make the final out of the game, preserving a 5-3 victory in the first game of the best-of-three Championship Series.

Share Bombers season includes new records and an appearance in the postseason for the third consecutive year.

Although they are the two newest teams in the Texas Collegiate League, the Victoria Generals and East Texas Pump Jacks finished the 2009 regular season far ahead of the rest of the pack. The two teams took home the majority of the awards, including eight of the 12 All-League selections.

(Victoria, TX) The Victoria Generals just keep on winning. The Brazos Valley Bombers came to town Friday night, fighting for their playoff lives and the league leaders weren’t very accommodating as they defeated the visitors 6-2. The Texas Collegiate League regular season is winding down but the final playoff spot is still up for grabs. The Generals have locked up the the regular season championship and the #1 seed, but the Bombers and McKinney Marshalls are still in contention to qualify.

The first pitch thrown by Travis Smith at Driller Park in Kilgore, Texas last night set a Bombers franchise record. The start by Smith was his tenth of the season, breaking a record set by 2008 Bomber, Jim McGonigle. When Smith struck out Mike Petello to lead off the sixth inning, he tied the Bombers franchise record of strike outs in a single season at 51 with Casey Whitmer. The strike out for Smith also set the record for innings pitched in a single season set the night before by Drew Flaniken. However, Smith’s bid for his first Bomber win came up short, as the Bombers fell 8-6.

The East Texas Pump Jacks staked their claim to second place on Wednesday night in a wild, 10-9 win over the Brazos Valley Bombers at historic Driller Park. In a dramatic climax with Big 12 written all over it, Brett Nicholas lined a 3-2, two-out pitch through the left side with the bases loaded, scoring Ryan Oesterle and Greg Fontenot to win the game in walk-off fashion.
