(TOKYO) – Japan took advantage of back-to-back errors in the bottom of the 11th inning to clinch the 37th Annual USA vs. Japan Collegiate Championships with an 8-7 victory at Jingu Stadium.
With the game tied at seven, pitcher Sonny Gray’s (Vanderbilt) errant pickoff attempt moved Shota Kioke to third base with two outs. Christian Colon (Cal State Fullerton) then misplayed a ground ball at shortstop that scored Kioke from third base to seal the game and best-of-five series. Read the rest of this entry »

Share Larry Hays known mostly for coaching Texas Tech and Lubbock Christian baseball programs is coming back to coaching in 2010 when he takes over the Lubbock Christian softball team. He replaces his son Shanon who started up the program two years ago before accepting the head coaching position with Texas Tech.
Larry Hays played professional softball during his playing days from Mobile Alabama to Montreal Quebec. He assisted Shanon over the last two season which saw him grow found of the program which won the 2008 NAIA National Championship in their inaugural season. Read the rest of this entry »

(DURHAM, N.C.) – Rick Hague (Rice) went 3-5 with two doubles and three RBI and Gerrit Cole (UCLA) pitched lights out for six and two-thirds innings to lead the USA Baseball National Team (Collegiate) to an 8-1 win over Team Canada at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park Friday night.
Tyler Holt (Florida State) led the game off with a stand up double and stole third base on Canadian starting pitcher and sixth round draft pick of the Philadelphia Phillies, Steven Inch. (CARY, N.C.) – USA Baseball announced Wednesday night the 22 members of its 2009 National Team (Collegiate). The roster is headlined by shortstop and 2008 National Team member Christian Colon (Cal State Fullerton; Capey, Puerto Rico), and consists of five outfielders, six infielders, 10 pitchers, and one utility player. (CARY, N.C.) – Casey McGrew (Wright State) drove a double down the left field line and Gerrit Cole (UCLA) stuck out eight as the Blue Team defeated the Red Team, 5-2, at the USA Baseball National Team (Collegiate) Trials, Friday, at the National Training Complex in Cary, N.C.

The best of the Big 12 will be showcasing their skills in Oklahoma City this week. While some teams are comfortably in the NCAA tournament field, other teams need to impress at Bricktown Ballpark to secure their bids. Texas, the regular season conference champion, enters the tournament as winners of nine of their last ten games. Oklahoma makes the twenty five mile drive up I-35 as the 2 seed with ideas of winning a conference tournament championship and locking up a regional host bid. Missouri enters the tournament as the 3 seed, having won eight of their last ten games. IRVING, Texas—J.T. Wise (Oklahoma) and A.J. Morris (Kansas State) highlight the 2009 Phillips 66 All-Big 12 Baseball Awards as Big 12 Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively, it was announced on Tuesday. Kansas’ David Narodowski has been named the top newcomer, while Garrett Buechele (Oklahoma) is the Freshman of the Year. Brad Hill of Kansas State has earned Coach of the Year accolades.
