Western Major Baseball LeagueThe regular season for the WMBL is over, and the playoffs start on Friday, July 31. The Okotoks Dawgs won the West Division pennant with a 32-13 record, and they will host the Moose Jaw Miller Express in the first playoff round. The Swift Current Indians won the Central Division pennant with a 27-13 record, and they will host Yorkton Cardinals in the first round. The Melville Millionaires won the East Division with a 26-14 record, and will host the Regina Red Sox. The other first-round playoff matchup is Medicine Hat Mavericks at Lethbridge Bulls. WMBL logoThe Okotoks Dawgs lead the West Division with a 19-8 record. They defeated the Melville Millionaires 8-3 and 6-4, and the Yorkton Cardinals 6-2 over the weekend. Mark Phillips (Colby College), Logan Todd (Merced College), and Danny Britton-Foster (British Columbia) got the wins. Britton-Foster leads the team with a record of 3-0, 1.16 ERA. Anthony Cros (Northwest Oklahoma State) leads the league in hitting with a .436 average, and he also leads the team with 30 RBI. Read the rest of this entry »

Results from the third day of the first-ever NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round, for May 14:

At Lubbock, TX:

#1 Lubbock Christian was upset by #18 Wayland Baptist 6-2. Marcus Limon pitched a complete game for the Pioneers, scattered nine hits, struck out 14. The Chaparrals’ starter, Jakob Cunningham, also went the distance, allowed eight hits, struck out nine. Read the rest of this entry »

The East Texas Pump Jacks bolstered their lineup with today’s announcement that the team has signed two more hitters for the 2009 season. The Pump Jacks added outfielder Mike Petello, a redshirt sophomore at Scottsdale Community College, and Kyle Frasard, a junior infielder from Texas Wesleyan.

A couple of former MLB players were recently named new assistant coaches. Rusty Greer who made a name for himself with the Texas Rangers was recently added to the coaching staff of NAIA school Texas Wesleyan. He served as the manager of the Colleyville Lone Stars of the Texas Collegiate League in 2007 and this summer is coaching the Dallas Baseball Academy which is a 17 year old team. Britt Reames who pitched in the Major Leagues most recently in 2006 has been named the new pitching coach of Furman University. He is a 1996 graduate of The Citadel and will be inducted into the Hall of Fame on November 1st. The full article is available here.
