Golden State Athletic Conference – at San Diego: #3 Point Loma Nazarene won the inaugural tournament, defeating #24 The Master’s 6-1. The Sea Lions were out-hit 7-6 by the Mustangs, but they broke a tight game open with a grand slam home run in the seventh inning by 3B Wes Kartch. Brandon Dixon got the win.

Appalachian Athletic Conference - at Kingsport, TN: #10 Tennessee Wesleyan won the championship, defeating #14 Union (KY) 5-3. This was the completion of a game suspended the previous day. The winning run came on a sacrifice fly by Matt Stanley in the sixth inning. Jon Swartout, who pitched a shutout on Monday, took over after the suspension, and went the last 4 2/3 innings, didn’t allow a run. Read the rest of this entry »

Golden State Athletic Conference – at San Diego: #3 Point Loma Nazarene defeated #11 Fresno Pacific 3-2 (12 innings). SS Tyler Kuehl singled in the winning run for the Sea Lions. Steven Winnick pitched four hitless innings in relief for the win. #24 The Master’s then took Fresno Pacific out of the tournament with a 6-5 win. Point Loma Nazarene and The Master’s play for the championship in Thursday.

Sun Conference – at Fort Myers, FL: #7 Embry-Riddle defeated Savannah College of Art and Design 11-4 for the championship. Joel Blomberg and Austin Goolsby hit home runs for the Eagles. Read the rest of this entry »

#1 Oklahoma City swept a three-game series against Rogers State, and defeated Calumet. The Stars are now 22-1, but they get their first serious challenge of the season with a series at #17 Wayland Baptist March 15-16.

#2 Lee swept Emmanuel, but trailed Trevecca Nazarene 8-6 after 6 1/2 innings. The Flames closed to 8-7 in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single by Junior Rodriguez. The winning run came in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI single by Julian Alvarez. The Flames then lost their second game of the season while splitting a double-header with Milligan (Johnson City, TN). The loss was 2-1, and the winning run was scored when Spencer Street was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

The Flames are now 23-2. They visit Faulkner March 13-14, and Trevecca Nazarene March 17. Read the rest of this entry »

#1 Oklahoma City lost their first game of the Season on March 2, but it took 13 innings to do it. The loss was 4-3 to Iowa Wesleyan, who is 9-6. Starter Jorge Martinez pitched ten innings for Iowa Wesleyan, allowed 13 hits, but only three runs. Hector Acevedo held the Stars to two hits over the remaining three innings. Edwin Jimenez hit a sacrifice fly to bring in the winning run.

The Stars are now 18-1. They play a Rogers State team that is 10-6 away-and-home March 5 and 7.

#2 Lee is 18-1, but they trailed going into the bottom of the ninth at Tennessee Temple on March 3. The Flames ended up winning 10-6 in ten innings. Elvis Sosa is hitting .508 with eight home runs for the Flames. Matthew Gilson is 3-0, 0.46 ERA. Next up for the Flames is Emmanuel March 6-7. The Lee Flames opened their 2009 season with a four-game sweep of Illinois Tech.Senior LHP Mitch Davidson got a no-hitter in the third game, but it was a game that ended after five innings because of the mercy rule. Chris Warters had seven hits in the series. Read the rest of this entry »

Lee: Last year’s runner-up starts the season on Feb. 6, hosting Illinois Institute of Technology. They play Auburn-Montgomery April 17-18, and Cumberland April 21. The Flames have picked up two D-I transfers, Tyler Roberts (Memphis) and Trey Burstrom (Tennessee).
