DAVIS, Calif. - The UC Davis baseball team has announced the 2010 schedule which boasts 15 games against teams who qualified for the NCAA Tournament, including 2008 national champion Fresno State and a home series against Big West Conference powerhouse UC Irvine.

Share Kendall Rogers of Rivals continues his previews of conferences around the country today with the Big West. He believes that the Big West has nothing to worry about this year as they are deeper then usual as Cal-State Fullerton and UC-Irvine are contenders for a CWS bid.

BERKELEY, Calif. - Cal scored twice in the third inning and then exploded for seven runs in the fourth inning on the way to a 9-6 victory over Santa Clara Wednesday afternoon at Evans Diamond. The Golden Bears improved to 13-8 overall and the Broncos dropped to 10-8. The winning pitcher for Cal was sophomore right-hander Yasser Clor, who improved his record to 3-0 by throwing a career-high 5.1 innings with six hits, four runs, one earned run, two walks and two strikeouts. Sophomore right-hander Kevin Miller earned his first collegiate save by throwing the final 3.2 innings (five hits, two runs, one earned run, one walk, two strikeouts). Sophomore right fielder Mark Canha, who is leading the Bears with a .398 average, had a two-run single in the third, while senior third baseman Michael Brady, sophomore shortstop Brian Guinn, junior first baseman Blake Smith, junior second baseman Jeff Kobernus, freshman left fielder Danny Oh and junior catcher Dylan Tonneson all had RBI in the fourth inning. UCR 15 – Columbia 5
The UC Riverside Baseball Team completed the three-game sweep of the Columbia Lions with a 15-5 win at the Riverside Sports Complex Sunday afternoon. Carl Uhl drove in five runs on the day and Tony Nix extended his hitting streak to 15 games with a fourth-inning double. The win is the fifth straight for the Highlanders (14-3) and 11th in the past 12 games.

LOS ANGELES – Derek Legg scored the eventual game-winning run in the top of the ninth Sunday while Charlie Ruiz threw 1 2/3 perfect innings in relief as the Long Beach State 49ers beat the USC Trojans, 5-4, at Dedeaux Field. Receiving 78 points and seven first-place votes, Cal State Fullerton was tabbed as the favorite to win the 2009 Big West Conference crown, according to the Big West Conference preseason poll conducted by the league’s nine head coaches. The Titans have claimed at least a share of seven of the last 10 league titles and a conference-best 14 overall. UC Irvine was selected to finish second with 67 points and UC Santa Barbara was picked third after receiving 65 points and one first-place nod.

DAVIS, Calif. – UC Davis head baseball coach Rex Peters announced this week that five recruits have signed National Letters of Intent during the fall 2008 signing period. The prospects, in alphabetical order, are Seth Batty of Buchanan High, Karl Kobler of Cardinal Newman High, Andrew Lassen of Clayton Valley High, Andrew Rich of Washington Union High and Evan Wolf of Clovis High. Former University of Memphis pitcher Brandon Rowan has joined the Pitt baseball coaching staff announced head coach Joe Jordano. Rowan, who most recently held the head coaching position at Crichton College in Memphis, Tenn., joins the Panthers’ staff as a volunteer assistant coach.
“I am very pleased to have a coach of Brandon Rowan’s character and experience join our staff,” said head coach Jordano.

Top ranked Stanford used a five run ninth inning to stave off elimination in the Palo Alto Regional. The Cardinal found themselves down 4-3 heading into the top of the ninth but a five run inning propelled the Cardinal into the championship game against 2-seed Pepperdine.
