(UCFAthletics.com) – Fans looking to catch the UCF baseball team on the diamond in 2010 will be able to start planning their spring as the Knights officially released their schedule and season-ticket information Thursday. The Black and Gold will play 19 of its first 21 games on campus, while UCF will have a total of 36 home games lined up for next season.

“We are looking forward to a very competitive 2010 schedule,” said second-year head coach Terry Rooney. “As always Conference USA continuously ranks as one of the top five baseball leagues in the country. That combined with our non-conference schedule will give fans plenty of opportunities to see the Knights this year.”

UCFRooney Interview with Coach Rooney and Coach Godwin

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) – Getting ready to enter his second season as head coach of the UCF baseball program, Terry Rooney was pleased to announce his first recruiting class on Monday. The class features 21 players with 10 bringing in experience from the junior college ranks and six who were previously selected in the MLB Draft. It also is made up of 18 student-athletes from the Sunshine State and eight who call the Central Florida area home.

DanScott ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) – UCF head baseball coach Terry Rooney announced Thursday that former Florida State student assistant coach Dan Scott has joined the Knights as a volunteer assistant coach. The Black and Gold also welcomed former Knight Nick Choto to the staff as the director of baseball operations.

"I’m very excited to get started and to be able to work with a great staff here at UCF," said Scott. "I’m really looking forward to continuing my coaching career and I want to thank coach Rooney for this opportunity with the Knights."

UCF Leads All Conference USA Baseball Programs in Team GPA

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) – Already having set two program academic records in 2008-09, UCF baseball learned that its efforts in the classroom are standing out in Conference USA as well. The Knights ranked first of all C-USA baseball teams with an annual grade-point average of 3.174 to receive the league’s Sports Academic Award.

After helping lead Memphis to its first Conference USA series victory of the season, freshman IF Jacob Wilson has been named the Conference USA Hitter of the Week. The Pitcher of the Week honor is being shared by Southern Miss sophomore RHP Todd McInnis and UCF senior Caleb Graham, both of whom pitched gems on the road this past weekend.

Half of the league’s teams were in action in the city of Houston this weekend, with the results impacting the conference race. Rice moved one step closer to a fourth consecutive regular season C-USA title by taking two of three games from UCF. Second place East Carolina entered the weekend with a one game lead over third place Houston as the teams met at Cougar Field and the Pirates extended that lead with a two games to one series victory over the Cougars. Crosstown rivals Houston and Rice met with first place on the line and the series did not disappoint with Rice winning two of three in a series that was decided by a total of six runs. Houston took the series opener on Friday night, 7-4 as Jared Ray earned his fourth straight win. On Saturday, Michael Fuda hit a two-out RBI single to break a 5-5 tie and give Rice a 7-5 victory. That win earned the Owls the Silver Glove Trophy, which goes to the winner of the annual five-game series between the teams. Rice made it a 2-1 weekend win and a 4-1 Silver Glove series triumph by holding off a late UH rally to win on Sunday, 6-5. Read the rest of this entry »

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA)­ released the Pro-Line Athletic National Player of the Week awards for the period ending April 26, today. UCF junior second baseman Shane Brown and South Dakota State sophomore infielder Jesse Sawyer were named National Co-Hitters of the Week, while Northeastern sophomore left-handed pitcher J.T. Ross was named National Pitcher of the Week. The NCBWA Board reviews candidates from each Division I Conference each week and names winners each Tuesday throughout the season.
