STORRS, Conn. – In 2010, the University of Connecticut baseball team is scheduled to play 56 regular season games in the program’s 115th season, including games against 29 opponents from 14 conferences throughout the country.
UConn will host 20 games at J.O. Christian Field in the upcoming season, including three-game series against four BIG EAST opponents. The Huskies’ schedule features nine opponents from the BIG EAST Conference, and is highlighted by a challenging early season agenda. The team’s first 12 games of the 2010 season will be against programs in the Pac10, Big Ten, Big West, Conference USA, SEC and the ACC.

Share Kendall Rogers of Rivals continues his series of conference previews heading into fall ball today with the Big East Conference. He believes that the conference needs to take a massive step forward after the top three teams in St. John’s, Louisville, and Notre Dame in competing for a CWS title. Of course, the Big East has a major disadvantage as many of the schools in the conference have substandard facilities and poor weather which affects early season workouts.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL – The schedule has been finalized and two state‐of‐the‐art major league venues have been added to the 2010 Big Ten/BIG EAST Baseball Challenge, hosted by the St. Petersburg/Clearwater Sports Commission, event manager API Sports announced today. Doubleheaders at Dunedin Stadium and Bright House Field highlight a slate that features 30 games over three days, Feb. 26‐28, 2010, at current and former big league facilities in the St. Petersburg and Clearwater, Fla., area.

Share The Cape Cod Baseball League has put out their 2009 All-Cape League team. It is led by CCBL MVP Kyle Roller from East Carolina and CCBL Top Pitcher Chris Sale from Florida Gulf Coast. The infield features first baseman Mickey Wiswall (Boston College), second baseman Pierre LePage (Uconn), shortstop B.A. Vollmuth (Southern Miss) and third baseman Jedd Gyorko (West Virginia). The two ultility infielders are Zach Cox (Arkansas) and Nick Crawford (UAB). The outfield is led by Todd Cunningham (Jacksonville State). The other four members of the All-League outfield are Gary Brown (CS-Fullerton), Austin Wates (Virginia Tech), Brian Fletcher (Auburn), and George Springer (UConn). The catchers are Mike Murray (Wake Forest) and Cody Stanley (UNC-Wilmington). Ryan Cuneo (Delaware) joins Roller as the All-League Designated Hitters.

Share The Boston Globe recently checked in on former New England high school baseball players progess during this past college season. They highlight Clemson’s Scott Weismann who enjoyed a successful freshman season which saw him appear in 17 games out of the bullpen while accumulating a 1.23 ERA and holding opponents to a batting average against of .206. PETERSBURG, FL – Following an inaugural event in which nearly 17,000 spectators attended games in a three-day period, the second Big Ten/BIG EAST Baseball Challenge, hosted by the St. Petersburg/Clearwater Sports Commission, has been confirmed for the weekend of Feb. 26-28, 2010. MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – A total of 37 standout freshmen college baseball players from every part of the country are featured on the annual Pro-Line Athletic National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Freshman All-American Team, the organization announced today.
The 2009 Pro-Line Athletic NCBWA Freshman All-American Team is comprised from 17 conferences and 10 conference championship teams. The two All-American squads are also made up of 12 conference “Rookie of the Year” winners.

ShareThe South Florida Bulls and UConn Huskies were set to face off in a winner’s bracket game today at the Big East Tournament at 4pm. The game would be eventually be postponed by that didn’t mean that players couldn’t have some fun.
