PROVO, Utah - The TCU Horned Frogs erased an early 3-0 deficit with a six-run second inning and cruised to the 13-4 victory over BYU at Larry H. Miller Field Friday night. The victory ensures the Frogs the series win as they continue their hot play in the month of April. It was another offensive explosion for TCU as they scored 13 times on 15 hits. BOSTON, Mass. - For the first time since 2000, UMass (11-14) won the Beanpot Championship by defeating the Boston College Eagles (18-18), 4-3, behind a fantastic pitching performance from Mike DiCato (Winthrop, Mass.) on Tuesday afternoon at Fenway Park. DiCato took a no-hitter into the ninth inning before allowing a bloop single with no outs. The Eagles looked to make a comeback in the bottom of the ninth, but Mitchell Eilenberg (Brooklyn, N.Y.) shut down the Eagle’s offense by retiring the final two batters of the game for his second save of the season. BC’s starter, Kevin Moran, struggled in the top of the first, allowing three runs to give UMass a 3-0 lead. Brian Baudinet (Watertown, Conn.) and Jim Macdonald (Cheshire, Conn.) each finished with two hits for UMass.

Brian Baudinet (Watertown, Conn.) hit a pair of solo shots, his third and fourth of the season. Mike Donato (East Hartford, Conn.) dealt the biggest blow, a fourth inning two-out grand slam, in what turned out to be a seven run inning for the Minutemen. Adam Tempesta (Brockton, Mass.) also went deep for UMass. Freshman Garrett Butt (Marlboro, Mass.) (1-0) pitched four innings of relief to earn his first-career victory. The University of Massachusetts Minutemen opened their season with a trip to Number 1 ranked Arizona State for a three game set. I found it very odd that UMass waited so long to open their season instead of opening like most of the teams around the country on February 22nd.
