Tim Fedroff of North Carolina was selected in the seventh round by the Cleveland Indians in this past year’s draft and faces a tough decision on whether to return to UNC or sign before August 15th. He led the team in home runs (12), slugging percentage (642), total bases (183), at-bats (285) and triples (5), while finishing a close second on the club in batting average (.404), hits (115), doubles (22), RBI (71) and stolen bases (14-for-17). If he decided to return to the UNC squad for his junior season, it would give the Tar Heels two of the top hitters in the country as he would join junior to be Dustin Ackley in the lineup. For the third straight game against North Carolina, Fresno State jumped on the board first in the bottom of the third inning on a two RBI single by third baseman Tommy Mendonca. UNC cut the lead in half at 2-1 when Kyle Shelton drew a bases loaded walk with one out however, the Tar Heels weren’t able to bring any more runs across the plate. The Bulldogs got on the board first in the bottom of the second inning scoring a run to take a 1-0 lead. North Carolina came out in the top of the fourth inning and scored three runs to take a 3-1 lead. Fresno State answered with a home run by Steve Susdorf in the bottom of the inning to cut the Tar Heels’ lead to 3-2. Williams, Kyle Seager and Kyle Shelton drove in two runs apiece for the Tar Heels (50-12), who turned the Chanticleers’ season-high six errors into six unearned runs and moved within one victory of their third straight trip to the College World Series. White (10-3) was a major reason for that. He struck out six and allowed eight hits while topping out his fastball at 96 mph and hitting the mid-90s from his first inning through his last in his second straight strong performance in the NCAA tournament. CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Scott Jackson, who has extensive experience as an assistant coach throughout Southeastern college baseball, has been named an assistant baseball coach at the University of North Carolina, head coach Mike Fox announced Tuesday. Jackson, who joins the Tar Heels after one season at Liberty, will work with the offense, including hitting and base running, as well as infield play. He also will serve as Carolina’s recruiting coordinator.

OMAHA, Neb. — The seventh-seeded LSU baseball team saw its remarkable season come to an end on Friday night as second-seeded North Carolina eliminated the Tigers from the 2008 NCAA College World Series on a ninth-inning grand slam by catcher Tim Federowicz that gave the Tar Heels a 7-3 win at Rosenblatt Stadium.

OMAHA, Neb. — North Carolina right-hander Alex White limited seventh-seeded LSU to four hits in seven innings and the second-seeded Tar Heels pounded out 17 hits to deal the Tigers an 8-4 loss in the 2008 NCAA College World Series opening round on Sunday night at Rosenblatt Stadium.
The North Carolina Tar Heels are making their third straight appearance in the College World Series making the Championship series the last two season where they lost to Oregon State in both years. The Tar Heels are led by 10th year head coach Mike Fox. The Tar Heels enter the College World Series with a 51-12 record after sweeping through the Cary (NC) Regional with victories over Mount St Mary’s (16-8) and knocked off UNC-Wilmington twice (5-1 and 7-3). The Tar Heels were then named the hosts of the Super Regional in Cary where they welcomed Coastal Carolina with two straight victories by scores of 9-4 and 14-4.
