SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Sophomore southpaw Matt Leonard pitched six strong innings and junior left fielder Luke Yoder drove in the go-ahead run with a sixth-inning single as Cal Poly completed a three-game series sweep against Sacramento State with a 6-2 victory in a non-conference baseball game Sunday afternoon before 1,427 in Baggett Stadium.

Coach Larry Lee’s Mustangs extended their winning streak to six games and improved to 6-1 on the year, their best start since going 7-1 to open the 2001 campaign. Sacramento State fell to 1-5.

New Mexico State's Leo Aguirre

Fresno State. Fresno State lost two of three against the Oregon Ducks in Eugene this weekend. In game one on Friday the Bulldogs lost a pitching duel 1-0 on Friday. Oregon’s Andrew Schmidt hit a walk-off single with two outs giving the Ducks the victory in front of a sold-out crowd of 2,777. Holden Sprague pitched 7.2 innings giving up just four hits and walking just one.

On Saturday Oregon’s bats pushed them to a 7-1 victory over Fresno State. The Ducks scored two runs in the bottom of the second, three in the bottom of the third and added single runs in the bottom of the sixth and seventh. Fresno State starter Sean Bonesteele lasted just 2.1 innings giving up five runs, all earned and allowed five hits. He also walked four batters.

Centenary 8, (#1) Texas A&M 4

Centenary overcame a three home run effort by the Texas A&M offense and scored three runs in the eighth inning to hand the top-ranked Aggies their first loss of the year, 8-4, Wednesday afternoon before 2,979 fans at Olsen Field.

A&M (5-1) trailed by three entering the sixth before a solo shot by Luke Anders and a two-run home run by Dylan Petrich one inning later would tie the game at four.

Centenary 1 at #3 Texas A&M 11

Luke Anders and Kevin Gonzalez drove in four runs apiece and true freshman Ross Hales picked up the win in his first career start as the No. 1-ranked Aggies defeated Centenary College, 11-1, Tuesday night.

College Baseball coaches from San Diego to Santa Barbara, including Northridge Head Coach Steve Rousey, convened at the ESPN Zone in Anaheim Saturday morning to show off their skills and creativity.

Their tools of choice however were not a glove, a baseball, or a bat but a skillet, a spatula, and a number of ingredients at their disposal as participants in the inaugural Baseball Cooking Challenge.

Santa ClaraSAN BRUNO, CA – San Diego and Pepperdine were picked as favorites to win this year’s WCC regular season title in the 2009 preseason baseball poll, as voted on by the head coaches in the conference. The Toreros and Waves have already been receiving several preseason accolades by several publications as San Diego has been ranked as high as No. 11 by Baseball America, while Pepperdine was ranked No. 17 in the same poll. San Diego and Pepperdine both received 45 points, with the Toreros receiving four first place votes to three for the Waves. Santa Clara, which has received votes in several preseason publications, was picked to finish third with 35 points. Gonzaga received the last remaining first place vote, and received 30 points, to come in at fourth place, edging out San Francisco, which received 26 points, for fifth place. Rounding out this year’s poll are Loyola Marymount, with 20 points, Saint Mary’s, with 14 points, and Portland, with nine points.

Kendall Rogers continues his countdown of the Top 25 teams in the nation with San Diego at the 15th spot. The Toreros return a young pitching staff that is talented but lack experience on a collegiate mound. They will need to replace All-American Brian Matusz who was drafted in the first round of the 2008 MLB Draft. Josh Romanski also made the jump into the minor leagues after a strong career.
