The Warning Track with Brian Foley checks in today with some of the best action from Friday night.
The first story of the night was Kent State’s Brad Stillings (TCBB 40th Best Player) twirling a nine inning no-hitter against Toledo as the Golden Flashes picked up a 1-0 victory over MAC rival Toledo. Stillings went nine innings without walking anyone and only a second inning error kept him from getting a perfect game. This game was only the 10th no-hitter in Golden Flash history.Full Recap of the game is available by clicking here. Read the rest of this entry »

Friday, February 20th was the dawn of a new era in Texas Tech baseball. The changing of the guard was officially ushered in with a double header sweep of Southern Utah University and Texas-Pan American, moving Texas Tech to 2-0 for the first time since the 2006 season.
Game 1 got off to a quick start after back-to-back doubles gave the Thunderbirds a 1-0 lead over the Red Raiders. Tech answered quickly with a bases loaded 2-run double from freshman DH Kevin Whitehead and an RBI single from junior LF Taylor Ashby. From there, sophomore RHP Chad Bettis and the rest of the Raiders entered cruise control, finishing off the visitors with a 14-3 victory. Read the rest of this entry »

I was able to get away from work and make it out to Disch Falk Field by the 2nd inning. It was a great Friday Afternoon to take in a game of baseball. Texas open the game with Sophomore Chance Ruffin and UI-C counter with junior left-hander Chris Kovacevich.
The Longhorns manufactured one run in the bottom of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. Travis Tucker led off the frame with a single through the right side of the infield. A sacrifice bunt by Brandon Loy and a wild pitch pushed Tucker to third and he scored on a sacrifice fly by Brandon Belt.

Share Gene Salazar- Assistant Coach-UT-Pan Am
The University of Texas at Pan American has narrowed their coaching search to four candidates. The most logical choice would be for Gene Salazar. Gene is currently the assistant coach at UT-Pan Am and has ties in South Texas. Salazar was a 4 year Letterman at St. Edwards University and was also the head Coach there from 1998-2002. St Edwards University is a DIV II school that is located in Austin, Texas. Coach Salazar served as the interim head coach of the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball program this past season where he served as the recruiting coordinator in his first three seasons and assisted in all aspects of the day-to-day operation of the Islander program.

When the Interim AD Ricky Vaughn at UT- Pan American elected to not renew Coach Gawlik’s contract it will be interesting to see which direction UT-Pan Am goes. The baseball team at UT-Pan Am plays in a very nice stadium that they share with a minor league team in Edinburg, Texas. Also with the announcement that they will be joining the Great West Conference starting this school year. It would seemed to be a intriguing situation for a coach to step in and put his stamp on a Division 1 school. Read the rest of this entry »
