FRISCO, Texas - The 2008 All-Southland Conference Baseball teams were announced today by the league office as UTSA junior outfielder Michael Rockett was voted Player of the Year by the league’s head coaches and sports information directors. Eleven member institutions compose the 2008 All Conference teams with league champion UTSA claiming the most roster selections with seven.

Rockett, a Sugar Land, Texas native, finished the 2008 regular season in the top six in seven league offensive categories including third in hits (84), second in runs batted in (68) and tied for first in total bases (149). A Collegiate Baseball Newspaper player of the week recipient, Rockett is the first Roadrunner to claim the Southland’s highest accolade since Mark Schramek in 2002 and just the second all time.

Texas State compiles three of the five first team infield positions with first base selection and Hitter of the Year honoree Paul Goldschmidt taking home dual honors. The only sophomore on the league’s first team list, Goldschmidt ran away with post season honor receiving 16 of 24 first place votes. The Woodlands, Texas native finished the 2008 regular season in the top-10 in eight offensive categories including the Southland’s homerun leader (17) and slugging percentage (.693).

For the second straight day, Northwestern State catcher Anthony Jones provided a late-inning double, this time scoring two runs, and relief pitcher J.C. FRISCO, Texas – The Southland Conference Baseball players of the week were named today by the conference office as Stephen F. Austin outfielder Noel Trevino and UTSA pitcher Ryan Proudfoot are awarded weekly honors. Trevino claims his second award on the year joining Mike Jaworski, Northwestern State and Trent Lockwood, UTSA as the only players in the SLC to receive two player of the week awards. Proudfoot is the third UTSA pitcher to receive the weekly award marking the fifth consecutive for UTSA.

AUSTIN - Sophomore Ryan Proudfoot tossed his second consecutive complete game and seniors Zach Etheredge and Trent Lockwood and junior Michael Rockett all homered, as UTSA powered past Texas, 7-1, on Wednesday night at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.

The victory was the eighth in the past nine game for the Roadrunners, who moved their record to 29-12 on the season. It also marked the first win against Texas since a 14-10 victory on April 18, 2006, at Wolff Stadium and the last victory at Disch-Falk since an 11-10 decision on Feb. 9, 1999. The Longhorns fell to 24-17 in dropping their fifth straight home game.

FRISCO, Texas – The Southland Conference Baseball players of the week were named today by the conference office as Texas State infielder Thomas Field, south paws Marc Picca of UT Arlington and Kris Ruepke of UTSA claimed pitcher of the week honors. Field is awarded his first honor of the season and team’s second. Ruepke is the fifth Roadrunner to garner weekly accolades marking the team’s fourth straight award, leading the conference. Picca joins teammate Nathan Long as the only Mavericks awarded weekly honors.

Steven Siers notched is second win of the season and matched a season-high eight strikout mark.

The Texas State Bobcats sent four runs across the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning the appeared to be enough for a success over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, but a two-run eighth gave the Islanders a chance to catch up but the effort was stopped short and the `Cats held on for a 5-3 win over the foe at Bobcat Field Saturday afternoon. WACO, Texas A pair of five-run innings proved detrimental for Baylor in Wednesday night’s midweek action at Baylor Ballpark as the Bears dropped an 11-7 decision to UTSA. The Bears (16-11) snapped a 23-game winning streak against UTSA (19-10), a streak that dated back to the 1994 season. Baylor also snapped a 13-game winning streak against Southland Conference teams, suffering its first loss to an SLC team since a 7-0 loss to McNeese State in 2006.

For the third consecutive week Southeastern Louisiana claims weekly honors as starting pitcher Wade Miley receives his first accolade of the season, giving the Lions three awards on the year for top marks in the SLC.

Boening works 4 2/3 on an inning but just misses out on getting the win. UTSA finally gets to Boening in the 5th for 3 runs and the staff knows that there in no needs to push him. FULLERTON, Calif. - The 21st-ranked University of San Diego baseball team scored four unanswered runs in picking up a 6-2 win over No. 16 Cal State Fullerton Tuesday evening in a non-conference game at Goodwin Field.
