Georgia Tech at Maryland
#21 Georgia Tech (27-10, 9-9 ACC) continues its road swing as it travels north to College Park to take on the Maryland Terrapins (22-17, 5-13 ACC).
Georgia Tech enters the series coming off a 14-8 victory at Georgia Southern on Wednesday. Junior Luke Murton, who hit 2 home runs in the Georgia Southern game, leads the team with a .355 batting average. Freshman shortstop Derek Dietrich leads the team with 11 home runs and 39 RBI. Tallahassee, Fla. - Second-ranked Florida State (32-3) captured its first regular season series victory over intra-state rival and No. 24 Florida (24-13) since 2005 with a 4-2 win Tuesday night. A new Dick Howser Stadium crowd of 6,737 were on hand to see senior Ryan Strauss pick up his second straight win over the Gators this year while throwing his first career complete game.
“Florida State, Florida is enough said,” added head coach Mike Martin on taking the season series from the Gators. “Florida has a great ball club and we were very fortunate to win. CLEMSON, S.C. - No. 4 North Carolina broke open a one-run game with five straight two-out singles in the eighth inning to claim an 8-4 win over Clemson Sunday and its first-ever series sweep at the Tigers’ Doug Kingsmore Stadium. Second baseman Kyle Seager belted the go-ahead home run in the fifth - his third in the last two days - and drove in a game-high three runs for the Tar Heels (29-7, 13-4 ACC). Paced by three-hit efforts by Seager, first baseman Dustin Ackley and third baseman Chad Flack, who also drove in two runs, the Tar Heels pounded out 18 hits en route to the first series sweep by an opponent at Clemson since Florida State took three from the Tigers in 2002. Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Top-ranked Florida State (30-3, 16-1) got a solo home run off the bat of Jack Rye in the top of the eighth to give the Seminoles a 4-3 victory over Boston College (18-16, 5-12) in game two of a doubleheader at Commander Shea Field. Freshman Geoff Parker recorded his third win of the season, while Ryan Strauss pitched the ninth for his second save of the day. Junior left fielder Dave DiNatale sent the first pitch he saw in the bottom of the 11th over the fence in left field as top-ranked Miami walked off with a 4-2 win over Florida Gulf Coast Tuesday night at Mark Light Field. CORAL GABLES, Fla. - Freshman catcher Yasmani Grandal collected a career-high four hits and four RBI including the go-ahead home run in the sixth inning and No. 2 Miami tacked on eight runs in the eighth inning en route to a 15-5 win over Clemson (18-12, 6-8 ACC) Saturday night to clinch the Atlantic Coast Conference series at Mark Light Field in front of another capacity crowd of 3,000. Sophomore right-hander Kyle Bellamy (5-0) won for the second time in as many days as the Hurricanes (25-2, 11-1 ACC) extended their winning streak to 12 games.
