FROM CBB NEWS SOURCE

JoshHoliday(ASU) NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt baseball head coach Tim Corbin announced the hiring of Josh Holliday as an assistant coach to his staff today.

Holliday spent the last two seasons as the recruiting coordinator at Arizona State and helped bring in the No. 1 recruiting class in the nation last year.

The former Oklahoma State All-American catcher has a wealth of postseason experience, having played in two College World Series (1996, 1999), while also coaching in two more while at Georgia Tech (2006) and at ASU (2009).

“I am very pleased to have someone of Josh’s caliber join our program,” said Vanderbilt head coach Tim Corbin. “I have known Josh dating back to his high school days when I tried to recruit him to come to Clemson. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience having coached at North Carolina State, Georgia Tech and Arizona State. He has strong baseball lineage with his father, Tom, having been the former head coach at Oklahoma State and now the pitching coach at North Carolina State and his brother Matt currently in the big leagues with Oakland. Pat Murphy (Arizona State head coach) just couldn’t say enough great things about him as a coach and person – it was with Murph’s blessing and support that we were able to bring Josh on board.”

Johnson has spent the last eight seasons as the Commodores pitching coach and is regarded as one of the top teachers in collegiate baseball.

“DJ’s is very deserving of the title of Associate Head Coach in so many ways,” said Corbin. “Not only is he in a very small class of great pitching coaches in the country, he serves as an ambassador and role model to the kids and our baseball program here at Vanderbilt.”

Last season the Commodore pitching staff sported a 4.66 earned run average, fourth best in the Southeastern Conference. Vanderbilt finished among the top five in the conference in nine statistical categories, and led the league in shutouts (six) and complete games (six). Junior Mike Minor was drafted by the Atlanta Braves with the seventh overall pick in the draft, marking the fourth Vanderbilt hurler to be selected in the first round during Johnson’s tenure.

Bakich left last week for the head coaching job at Maryland. This is huge news as Holliday recruited the number 1 class in the country for this past year’s freshman class and has also been with Georgia Tech where he brought in some excellent players like Matt Wieters. The other big coaching change is East Carolina’s recruiting coordinator Link Jarrett moving over to Auburn to fill that position also. Read the rest of this entry »
