St. John’s 5 VCU 4

Chris Anninos hit two homers including the walk-off homer to lead the Red Storm to a 5-4 victory over VCU 5-4. VCU scored a run in the top of the ninth to tie the game at four before Anninos hit the walkoff homer. St. John’s advances in the loser’s bracket to take on Coastal Carolina at 7 pm on Sunday while VCU ends the season with a 37-23 record.

Clemson 11 Coastal Carolina 8

The Clemson Tigers advanced to the Regional Championship game on Monday by knocking off Coastal Carolina 11-8. Andy D’ Alessio led the Tigers by getting three hits including two doubles and a homer while driving in four runs. Clemson will play the winner of the St. John’s/Coastal Carolina elimination game on Monday while Coastal plays St. John’s later tonight.

Clemson 3 St. John’s 2

The Clemson Tigers scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth to walk-off with a 3-2 victory over St. John’s. Brad Chaulk hit a single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to break a 2-2 tie and give the Tigers the walk-off victory. The Tigers will face Coastal Carolina in the winner’s bracket on Saturday while St. John’s will play VCU.

Coastal Carolina 7 VCU 1

The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers picked up a 7-1 victory over VCU to advance in the winner’s bracket. Coastal Carolina was led by Tommy Baldridge who went 2-4 with two RBI. Bobby Gagg let up one run in 7.1 innings and picked up the win. Coastal Carolina will take on Clemson in the winner’s bracket while VCU will play St. John’s in an elimination game.

Coastal Carolina was selected to host an NCAA Regional in Myrtle Beach SC at the home of the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. They will be joined by Clemson, St. John’s, and Virginia Commonwealth.

Coastal Carolina

Coastal Carolina comes in as a number 1 seed and hosting the Regional for the first time after going 48-11 this spring. They are led by David Sappelt who is hitting .366 with 49 RBI. Coastal Carolina’s top starting pitcher is Bobby Gagg who went 11-2 with a 2.75 ERA. They open up against Virginia Commonwealth at 4 pm on Friday.

Clemson

The Tigers (38-21) enter the weekend after winning two out of three games in the ACC Tournament but did not advance as they lost the tiebreaker to Wake Forest. They are led by Brad Chaulk who has a .385 average in forty games this season. He is also getting on base at a .514 clip. The Tigers are led by All-American closer Daniel Moskos who was moved to the starting rotation halfway through the year. He has a 3-5 record with a 3.12 ERA. Clemson opens the tournament against St. John’s at noon on Friday.

St. John’s

The Red Storm (40-17) recieved an at-large berth out of the Big East. Gil Zayas is leading the team in hitting with a .363 batting average. Bryan Kemp also has a .361 batting average to give the Red Storm two solid hitters. George Brown has made 13 starts this season accumulating a 6-2 record and a 2.93 ERA.

St. John’s Tourney Notes

Virginia Commonwealth

The Rams (37-21) are led by Jared Bolden who has a .393 average with 49 RBI. He has also stolen 17 bases throughout the season. Phillip Deane leads the starters in ERA at 4.02. He only has a 3-5 record on the season. Luke Pisker leads the team in ERA at 1.87 and has a 9-1 overall record including 11 saves.

The CBB predicts that Clemson will come through the regional with superior talent.

Virginia 5 VCU 4

The Virginia Cavaliers picked up a 5-4 walkoff victory over Virginia Commonwealth on Tuesday night. Tyler Cannon hit a two out single to drive in Tim Henry with the winning run. Sean Doolittle led the Cavs by going 3-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Andrew Carraway picked up the victory in relief by pitching 1.1 scoreless innings to up his record to 5-0 while Rams reliever Mick Mattaliano pitched 3.1 innings while giving up only the losing run in the ninth to even his record at 2-2.

Virginia Tech 12 Liberty 9

The Virginia Tech Hokies got ten hits and Liberty committed seven errors as the Hokies easy got by the Flames of Liberty in Blacksburg on Tuesday. Bryan Thomas went 3-5 with 2 RBI to lead the Hokie offense. Rhett Ballard got the victory in relief for the Hokies by giving them six strong innings while limiting the Flames to three runs. His record is now 6-2. Liberty reliever Ryan Page picked up the loss as he gave up two unearned runs in his two innings of work to drop his record down to 2-3.

Boston College 13 Quinnipiac 2

Boston College continued their hot hitting as they knocked around the Bobcats pitching for 18 hits and 13 runs. Johnny Ayers led the Eagles attack by going 4-4 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored. Ted Ratliff pitched eight strong innings while giving up no runs on four hits and striking out ten batters as his record heads to 5-2. Ryan Walfield picked up the loss by giving up seven runs in 3.2 innings of work to put his record at 1-1.

Maryland 1 Towson 0

Four Maryland pitchers combined on a four hit shutout over Towson which broke a Terps losing streak of six games. Brad Taylor pitched 3.2 innings in relief to pick up the victory to up his record to 1-0 while Brett Cecil got his eighth save of the season. Nate Curd pitched four innings in relief for the Tigers but picked up the loss to drop his record to 1-4.

The Maryland Terrapins scored nine runs in the third inning to blow out the VCU Rams by a score of 17-2. The Terps offense was led by Will Greenberg who went 4-4 with 3 RBI. Mike Sufczynski picked up the win by going two innings and giving up one run. Cody Eppley picks up the loss for VCU by giving up nine runs in 2.1 innings of work.

The UNC-Wilmington Seahawks picked up a 5-3 victory over VCU in the rubber game of their series. Daniel Cropper pitched into the ninth inning with a shutout and Daniel Hargrave picked up three hits in the winning effort.

After giving up 13 runs on Friday, The UNC-Wilmington Seahawks shutout the VCU Rams 3-0 in CAA action. Jeff Hatcher of UNC-Wilmington pitched a complete game shutout to get his second victory of the season. Senior catcher John Batts went 2-2 at the plate with two RBI’s to lead the hitting attack. The teams play the rubber game tomorrow at 2 pm.

The VCU Rams used a 17 hit attack to destroy the defending CAA conference champion UNC-Wilmington Seahawks by a score of 13-3. Jared Bolden lead the Rams with a 3-4 performance to continue his hot start to the season. Richard Gonzalez and Sergio Miranda also picked up three hits a piece in the victory. The teams will be back in action Saturday with a 4pm first pitch.

The VCU Rams got seven runs in the first two innings to cruise to a 9-4 victory over the Virginia Tech Hokies.

Duke 7

The Duke Blue Devils have continued their strong start to the season with a 7-4 victory over the Temple Owls. They used a squeeze play in the bottom of the sixth by Jonathan Foreman which got Alexander Hassan home to get the 5-4 lead and they tacked on two more runs in the seventh inning to get to the final score.

UNC-Greensboro 10

The UNC-Greensboro Spartans used a seven run fifth inning to cruise to a 10-8 victory over the NC State Wolfpack. Korey Judd picked up the win for the Spartans while Nate Karns picked up the loss.

Miami (FL) 2

Eddie Williams was able to scatter six hits and seven walks to only allow two runs in his 6.2 innings of work to pick up the huge victory for the Bonnies. It is only their second victory on the season. Miami was led on offense by Mark Sobolewski who went 4-4 in the losing effort.

Brandon Marsh picked up his second straight game-winning RBI as he drove in Greg Miclat with the winning run in the ninth inning. Jake Rule picked up his first victory in a Cavs uniform while Casey Lambert picked up his third save of the young season. Allie Swanson picked up his third loss of the season for the Dukes. All-American Kellen Kulbacki went 1-4 in the losing effort for the Dukes.
