ORONO, Maine – University of Maine baseball coach Steve Trimper announced today that Mike Cole has been named an assistant coach of the Black Bears. Cole comes to Maine after spending the past season as an assistant baseball coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of Vermont.
"Mike is a wonderful addition to our staff," said Trimper. "It’s great to be reunited with him once again. Known as a tireless recruiter and teacher, he will be a tremendous asset to our infielders and hitters."

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.– America East baseball conference play got underway last weekend between the raindrops, and a trio of players earned league honors to start off the second part of the season. Vermont sophomore shortstop Matt Duffy (Milton, Mass./St. Sebastian’s) proved valuable at the plate to earn Player of the Week recognition. Binghamton lefty pitcher James Giulietti (Plainview, N.Y./Plainview-JFK), another sophomore, received Pitcher of the Week honors, and Albany freshman first baseman Mike Tirri (Lake George, N.Y./Lake George) was named Rookie of the Week. Every CAA team with the exception of Hofstra will engage in conference play this weekend. The Pride, along with Old Dominion and William & Mary, are the only three teams in the eleven team league with a losing record thus far.

Share The Vermont Athletic Department put out a release today dropping the Baseball and Softball programs at the end of the season. This will impact five staff members and most importantly 43 student athletes who will lose their ability to play their respective sport. Baseball head coach Bill Currier is entering his 22nd season in charge of the Catamount program. I am currently trying to get a comment from Currier about the program being discontinued. CAMBRIDGE, Mass.— Last year’s regular season champion, Binghamton University, barely edged out the defending tournament champion, Stony Brook University, to claim the top spot in the 2009 America East Baseball Preseason Coaches’ Poll. The Bearcats received four of a possible six votes and garnered 34 points, while the Seawolves claimed the remaining three votes and finished with 33 points. Share College Baseball Insider recently posted an interview with Vermont dual sport athlete Justin Milo. He is a hockey player during the winter and trades his skates for spikes after the Frozen Four when he joins the baseball squad. At the time of the interview, he was tied for third in scoring on the nationally ranked hockey squad. Last season in baseball, Milo had a .328 average with six homers and 40 RBI in 50 games. We recently saw the Big East and Big Ten set up an interconference matchups of games in Florida but we recently found out the America East and the Northeast conference will be playing a similar tournament from March 27th-29th. The three teams from the America East conference will visit the Northeast conference members over the three days where they will play single games on Friday and Sunday with a doubleheader on Saturday. BURLINGTON, Vt. — A pair of series against two national powers from the Southeastern Conference and 23 home games highlight the 2009 University of Vermont baseball schedule announced by the school today. Rick McCarty Joins Redhawks Baseball Coaching Staff
Southeast Missouri State head baseball coach Mark Hogan announced today that Rick McCarty will join the Redhawks coaching staff as the new pitching coach in the 2008-09 season. McCarty has five years of previous coaching experience, all coming at NCAA Division II Delta State University. FULL STORY

TAMPA, Fla. – The University of South Florida baseball team lost, 10-3, to Bethune-Cookman Wednesday night at Red McEwen Field.
The Bulls drop to 25-21 overall while the Wildcats improve to 30-17.
Junior Chris Rey was 3-for-4 in the game with one RBI and a run scored, while junior Addison Maruszak added a two-hit outing to the Bulls’ offense.
Freshman Zach Pietrzyk made his longest start, and appearance, of his rookie campaign against the Wildcats, striking out two in his 4.1-inning outing. He allowed five runs from seven hits to take his second loss of the year. Read the rest of this entry »
