MikeMurrayWake WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Wake Forest baseball team will close its 2009 fall practice with the Black & Gold World Series, which begins Sunday at Noon at Wake Forest Baseball Park.

All games of the series will be played at Wake Forest Baseball Park and are free and open to the public.

TomWalterWakeForest WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – A season-opening, 13-game homestand and 30 games against teams that advanced to the 2009 NCAA Tournament highlight the 2010 Wake Forest baseball schedule, as announced by head coach Tom Walter on Thursday.

"Anytime you have a schedule where 30 of your 56 games are against NCAA Tournament participants from the year before, it’s obviously a very competitive schedule," Walter said. "Last year, the team had a lot of success in the non-league games. This year the key is to be more competitive in ACC games, with the first goal always being to make the ACC Tournament and the second goal being an NCAA Regional berth."

MikeMurray WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Wake Forest baseball team officially opened fall practice with a three-hour session on Tuesday afternoon at Wake Forest Baseball Park.

The practice marked the first official workout for the Demon Deacons under new head coach Tom Walter.

"I thought the first day couldn’t have gone any better," Walter said. "I was really pleased with their energy level and their attention to detail. I couldn’t have been happier with the effort today."

"I am excited about the opportunity to be back working at Wake Forest as well as learn from Coach Walter and the rest of the staff," Achilles said. "I am ready to help reestablish the winning tradition that this program stands on."

JonPalmieri It is very rare that I have to come on here and actually be disgusted with the story that I have to report but tonight is a different story. According to multiple reports in the Winston-Salem NC area, former Wake Forest assistant coach Jon Palmieri was arrested on Tuesday after allegedly soliciting a 14 year old girl for sex. The girl come to find out was a police officer on the other side. Palmieri continued conversations with the officer for a month before setting up a meeting on Tuesday where the police apprehended him when he showed up.

The Cape Cod Baseball League has put out their 2009 All-Cape League team. It is led by CCBL MVP Kyle Roller from East Carolina and CCBL Top Pitcher Chris Sale from Florida Gulf Coast. The infield features first baseman Mickey Wiswall (Boston College), second baseman Pierre LePage (Uconn), shortstop B.A. Vollmuth (Southern Miss) and third baseman Jedd Gyorko (West Virginia). The two ultility infielders are Zach Cox (Arkansas) and Nick Crawford (UAB). The outfield is led by Todd Cunningham (Jacksonville State). The other four members of the All-League outfield are Gary Brown (CS-Fullerton), Austin Wates (Virginia Tech), Brian Fletcher (Auburn), and George Springer (UConn). The catchers are Mike Murray (Wake Forest) and Cody Stanley (UNC-Wilmington). Ryan Cuneo (Delaware) joins Roller as the All-League Designated Hitters.

WilkinsatWake MALIBU, Calif. – Pepperdine head baseball coach Steve Rodriguez Friday announced the addition of Joe Wilkins to the Waves’ coaching staff. As the team’s volunteer assistant coach, Wilkins responsibilities will include training the catchers, helping to develop the offense and coaching first base.

"Joe is going to be a great addition to this ball club," Rodriguez said. "He’s comes to us highly recommended by a number of head coaches, many of whom have cited his tireless work ethic as one of his many strong points. He’s also played for a great championship-caliber program at Ohio State. We’re really looking forward to working with him on a daily basis. "

Wilkins move to Pepperdine marks his West Coast coaching debut. He spent this past season volunteering at Wake Forest where he tutored 2009 Cape Cod All-Star catcher Mike Murray.

billcilentoWake Forest new head coach Tom Walter has announced that he has hired Bill Cilento as an assistant coach. He comes over from Brown University where he spent the last three seasons. He brought the Brown Bears to the NCAA Tournament in 2007 where they led the Ivy League in every offensive category including winning the team batting average title by 39 points. Cilento has also had coaching stops at New Orleans under Walter and at his alma mater Siena. Read the rest of this entry »
