Leary announces 2009 baseball schedule

Lehigh baseball coach Sean Leary announced the 2009 schedule on Thursday, which includes trips up and down the east coast and appearances in the Palm Beach Challenge and the Liberty Bell Classic.

Leary’s squad will spend the first month of the season on the road, traveling to the warmer-weather South throughout the latter parts of February and early March. The Mountain Hawks open up with a trip to Hattiesburg, Miss., where they will play a three-game set with Southern Miss from Feb. 20-22. The opening weekend will be a challenge for The Mountain Hawks, as the Goldan Eagles won 41 games last season, including 25 in Hattiesburg.

Head Coach Rick Rembielak- Wake Forest

Kyle Padgett has joined the Wake Forest baseball staff as the team’s new volunteer assistant coach, head baseball coach Rick Rembielak announced on Tuesday. Padgett replaces Marshall Canosa, who is now the pitching coach at Hofstra.

“We are very pleased to have Kyle join our program,” Rembielak said. “I think he has a very good background of playing and coaching, especially in the Cape Cod summer league. He will help us mainly with the catchers, and supplement us on the offensive side of the game.”

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - First round draft pick Allan Dykstra signed with the San Diego Padres about an hour before the Friday night deadline for Major League Baseball teams to sign players drafted in the 2008 MLB Draft. Senior Evan Ocheltree and incoming freshmen Austin Stadler and Daniel Marrs did not sign with the teams that drafted them and will play for Wake Forest this upcoming season. Due to a mixup by the Boston Red Sox, the ACC Baseball tourney has been removed from Fenway Park after a scheduling mixup between the Boston Red Sox and the Fenway Sports Group. GREENSBORO, N.C. –ACC Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year Buster Posey of Florida State leads the 2008 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Team as announced today by Commissioner John D. Swofford.

Posey, a junior Business Finance major, is a three-time ACC All-Academic team selection and the recipient of the 2008 Academic All-American of the Year, presented by CoSIDA in conjunction with ESPN the Magazine. Posey is a member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll, a five-time Dean’s List Student and was named to the Florida State President’s List during the spring of his sophomore year.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Virginia earned its second-consecutive win over a top-5 team Friday, as the Cavaliers defeated No. 3 Florida State, 5-3, at the 2008 ACC Baseball Championship at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. The win came two nights after Virginia upset No. 1 North Carolina, 8-7 in extra innings.

The ACC Tourney starts up tomorrow with the league split into two pools with four teams in each one.
