 MACOMB, Ill. - Western Illinois University head baseball coach Stan Hyman passed away at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria, Ill., early Saturday morning, at the age of 50, after battling leukemia for the past month.
“It is a sad day not only for Western Illinois University and the Athletics Department, but also for all of college baseball,” Western Illinois Director of Athletics Dr. Tim Van Alstine said. “Stan revitalized the Leatherneck baseball program and was a catalyst in the construction of Alfred D. Boyer Stadium, a state of the art facility that opened in 2006.”

Share Western Illinois head coach Stan Hyman was recently diagnosed with Leukemia and started treatments today. He will undergo Chemotherapy treatment for the next 30 days at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria Ill. Assistant coach Brock Bainter will be handling all baseball duties until Hyman is well enough to return. The College Baseball Blog would like to wish Hyman and his family best wishes for a full recovery.

Western Illinois signs 11 for 2010
MACOMB, Ill. – Righthanded pitcher Jason Smith of Morrison, Ill. has signed his National Letter of Intent to play baseball at Western Illinois for the 2010 season.
The signing of Smith gives head coach Stan Hyman a total of 11 new players for his 2010 team. The 2010 recruiting class includes players from California, Washington, Illinois, Missouri, Wisconsin and Ohio.

Metcalf collects Player of the Week honors after belting three home runs in two games against Kansas last week. The senior also had a 1.273 slugging percentage, four runs and four RBI, along with extending his hitting streak to nine games. His .455 average on the week raised his average on the season to .328. Share The Oklahoma State Cowboys blew out the Western Illinois Leathernecks 30-3 in Game 1 of a doubleheader. The Oklahoma State coaching staff only made two substitutions in the starting lineup as they continued to pound on the Leathernecks with a 18-3 score after five innings. Texas A&M 8 Wright State 5
Sophomores Caleb Shofner and Brooks Raley had four hits each on Sunday afternoon as No. 1 Texas A&M rallied for an 8-5 win over Wright State and a series sweep before 3,207 fans at Olsen Field.

Share Picture provided By Donald J Boyles I was able to get away from work and make it out to Disch Falk Field by the 2nd inning. It was a great Friday Afternoon to take in a game of baseball. Texas open the game with Sophomore Chance Ruffin and UI-C counter with junior left-hander Chris Kovacevich.
The Longhorns manufactured one run in the bottom of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. Travis Tucker led off the frame with a single through the right side of the infield. A sacrifice bunt by Brandon Loy and a wild pitch pushed Tucker to third and he scored on a sacrifice fly by Brandon Belt.

Share Big 12 With the Baseball Season finally here-here are the match ups on the teams in the Big 12. Baylor will be hosting Pacific in a 3 game series at the Baylor Ball Park. The Kansas Jayhawks will be taking part in the Service Academies Spring Classic, Millington, TN. Kansas State will be headed to Houston, Texas to take on Houston Cougars in a weekend series. Missouri is headed to the Grand Canyon Classic in Phoenix, Ariz where they will be playing Nevada and Gonzaga. Nebraska will be traveling to Louisiana-Lafayette in a four game set.

ELMHURST, Ill. − After winning its record 11th straight league championship a year ago, Oral Roberts was a unanimous decision to claim its 12th consecutive Summit League crown in 2009 as voted by the league’s eight head coaches.
The Golden Eagles collected seven first-place votes for a total of 49 points. Only five points separated the next three teams as Southern Utah placed second with 40 points, Centenary was third with 35 points and South Dakota State is in the fourth slot with 30 points and the final first-place vote. SDSU edged Western Illinois by one point, as the Leathernecks were selected fifth with 29 points. Oakland (17 points), IPFW (13 points) and North Dakota State (11 points) rounded out the voting.
