Share The Western Kentucky Media Relations department has put together a series of articles called “Ten About ‘10.” The articles preview the 2010 season and discuss some of the facility improvements that the Hilltoppers field has undergone during the offseason. OMAHA, Neb. – The American Baseball Coaches Association announced the ABCA/Rawlings Sporting Goods All-American teams on Wednesday, June 17.
Among the First Team honorees are six players participating in this year’s College World Series including Arizona State starting pitcher Mike Leake, LSU starting pitcher Louis Coleman, Arizona State catcher Carlos Ramirez, UNC first baseman Dustin Ackley, ASU outfielder Jason Kipnis and Virginia utility player Danny Hultzen. Share OXFORD, Miss. — It was a night for heroics as sophomore left-hander Drew Pomeranz pitched a complete-game with a career-high 16 strikeouts to tie the school’s single game record as No. 9 Ole Miss (43-18) defeated Western Kentucky (42-20) by a score of 4-1 on Monday to advance to an NCAA Super Regional in the NCAA Tournament. OXFORD, Miss. – Western Kentucky University (41-19) jumped on the Missouri Tigers (35-27) early for the second time in three days to post an 11-6 victory on Sunday afternoon at Oxford-University Stadium and advance to the program’s first NCAA Regional Championship round appearance in 29 years. The third-seeded Hilltoppers won their second game in three tries in the NCAA Oxford Regional, eliminating the Tigers, and will now face top-seeded and eighth-ranked Ole Miss at 5:00 PM. Share Ole Miss will be hosting the Oxford Regional with Missouri (Big 12) as the two seed, Western Kentucky (Sun Belt) as the 3rd seed, and the 4th seed Monmouth (Northeast Conference). Ole Miss was tied for first in the SEC West. While Missouri finish third in the Big 12 and lost to Texas in the Big 12 Tournament Championship game.Western Kentucky was tied for first in the Sun Belt but lost in the semifinal of the Sun Belt Tournament. Monmouth finish fourth in the Northeast Conference but won that Conference Tournament. The winner of the Oxford Regional will be paired up with the winner of the Irvine Regional. NEW ORLEANS – The Sun Belt Conference recognized its top performers on the baseball field with the announcement of the 2009 All-Conference teams on Tuesday. The student-athletes selected to the first and second teams, as voted on by the 11 head coaches, were honored for their consistent play throughout the season, posting impressive numbers all year.
