WesternMichigan KALAMAZOO, Mich.- The Western Michigan baseball team has announced its 56-game 2010 schedule, opening the season with trips to Dallas and Winter Haven, Fla. WMU will also play a five-game intrasquad series, the Black & Gray World Series, in October as part of fall ball practice.

The Black & Gray series begins Oct. 2 at 2:30 p.m at Robert J. Bobb Stadium at Hyames Field. The other four games are scheduled for Oct. 9, 10, 16 & 18. Weekday games will begin at 2:30 p.m. and weekend games are scheduled for 11 a.m.

macCleveland, Ohio – Defending MAC Regular Season Champion Kent State and Western Michigan have been chosen by the league’s head coaches to win their respective divisions, released today by the league office. KALAMAZOO, Mich.- Western Michigan has announced that Kory Bauswell, Brooks Beilke, Christopher Bossenbery, Dustin Ditsworth and Kyle Strube have signed National Letters of Intent to attend Western Michigan next fall and play for the 2009-10 Bronco baseball team.

“One of my recruiting philosophies has been to recruit the student-athlete who has great work ethic, is a good person overall and someone that loves to play the game,” said WMU head coach Randy Ford. “I feel that we have accomplished that goal with this recruiting class.” Read the rest of this entry »

VBL Week Seven Players of the Week

Max Most, Staunton, OF, Jr., Port Washington, N.Y. (Old Dominion)
Most was an on-base machine for the Braves, reaching safely in 20 of 29 plate appearances for a .690 on-base percentage. The ODU Monarch led the league with a .571 batting average, going 12-for-21 with two doubles. He scored seven runs, drove in four, and led the league with eight walks. Adding to his arsenal, Most also shared the league lead with six steals. For the season, he is batting .364 with 25 runs, 10 doubles, 15 RBIs, 21 walks, 19 steals, and a .447 on-base percentage. East Division Player of the Week

Kurt Davidson, Akron, C/1B, Sr., North Canton, Ohio (Hoover)

Davidson led the Zips to their first league series victory on the road since 2005 as UA took two of three at Miami this weekend. Including a non-league game against Cleveland State, the senior hit a robust .529 (9-for-17) with 10 RBI, five doubles and a pair of home runs to post a slugging percentage of 1.176 in four games. Additionally, behind six walks, Davidson notched a team-leading on-base percentage of .667 and reached base five times in Sunday’s series finale. During the Zips’ huge offensive weekend, the slugger, who became the school’s all-time home run leader last spring, took the career leads for at-bats, RBI and total bases to further establish himself as one of the greatest hitters to come through the UA program. Northeastern 4 Western Michigan 2

The Northeastern University baseball team defeated the Western Michigan Broncos 4-2 on Thursday afternoon at IMG Academies in Bradenton, Fla. Sophomore Charly Bashara improved to 1-0 on the season after outdueling the Broncos’ Ethan Hollingsworth.

Bashara finished with a final line of six innings, four hits, one earned run, four strikeouts and no walks, making it the second straight day that the Huskies were able to silence the heavy-hitting Bronco lineup. Senior Bobby Carrington was strong for out of the ‘pen for the Huskies, tossing three scoreless innings to pick up the save. Read the rest of this entry »

The weekend series between Southern Illinois and Western Michigan has been moved to Tennessee after inclement weather in Carbondale Ill has been forecasted for the weekend. Who in their right mind would schedule a series in Illinois in the middle of February? Did they expect the weather to be great? The full release is available here.
