Wichita State signs Seven for 2011
WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State has received a national letter-of-intent from seven baseball players in the early signing period, Head Coach Gene Stephenson announced Nov. 17.
Bob Arens, a catcher from Northwest High School in Wichita, Kan.; Zach Beringer, a right-handed pitcher form Harrisburg High School in Harrisburg, Mo.; Cale Elam, a right-handed pitcher and infielder from Oktaha High School in Oktaha, Okla.; Kris Gardner, a left-handed pitcher from Prestonwood Christian Academy in Plano, Texas; Josh Halbert, an infielder from Choctaw High School in Choctaw, Okla.; Albert Minnis, a left-handed pitcher from Lawrence High School in Lawrence, Kan.; and Dayne Parker, a shortstop from Roff High School in Roff, Okla., have signed national letters-of-intent with the Shockers.
WICHITA, Kan. – The 2010 Wichita State baseball schedule features games with traditional national powers and conference champions along with 30 home games, head coach Gene Stephenson announced Oct. 22.
“Once again we have a great schedule for the fans and players alike,” Stephenson said. “It will be very challenging for this team. I think we have an especially challenging road schedule. It will require us to grow up in a hurry to be successful. I think we’ll have a much better team overall, but we need to prove it on the field in the spring. With the improvements at our facility, it should be an exciting season.”
One of the best moves in College Baseball over the last few years is the removal of Astroturf to either grass or fieldturf surfaces. Wichita State joins the crowd as they are ripping up the old Astroturf at Eck Stadium in favor of a new fieldturf surface. The renovations are currently underway as part of a 3.7 million dollar improvement to the Wichita State Baseball program which also includes a new practice facility. Darren Dreifort who is known for his MLB career with the Dodgers is currently looking forward to making the trek to Lubbock TX for his induction to the College Baseball Hall of Fame on July 3rd. Dreifort played three seasons at Wichita State where he had his most success in 1993 when he received the Golden Spikes Award. He went 11-1 with a 2.48 ERA while also serving as a DH where he had a .327 average with 22 homers and 66 RBI. Read the rest of this entry »
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – A total of 37 standout freshmen college baseball players from every part of the country are featured on the annual Pro-Line Athletic National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Freshman All-American Team, the organization announced today.
The 2009 Pro-Line Athletic NCBWA Freshman All-American Team is comprised from 17 conferences and 10 conference championship teams. The two All-American squads are also made up of 12 conference “Rookie of the Year” winners. Read the rest of this entry »
