Lynchburg, Va. – Liberty Head Baseball Coach Jim Toman has announced the hiring of Jason Murray as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. 

Murray replaces former Liberty coach Nick Schnabel, who accepted a similar position at East Carolina earlier this month.  Murray will serve as the team’s infield coach and assist with the hitters.

“We are delighted that we were able to hire someone with Jason’s experience,” said Toman.  “Not only has Jason worked with several outstanding coaches, but he has also been a head coach in the Big South Conference and was recently the recruiting coordinator at Michigan.  As a strong Christian, Jason is a perfect fit for Liberty, and we are extremely excited to have him and his wife, Mindy, join the Liberty family.”

The Okotoks Dawgs continue to lead the West Division with a 22-10 record. The Dawgs lost road games to the Regina Red Sox and the Medicine Hat Mavericks, then won two home games against the Moose Jaw Miller Express, 14-3 and 6-4. The games against Moose Jaw drew crowds of 1,864 and 1,793. In the 6-4 win, the Dawgs scored five runs in the second inning on an RBI double by C Brett Thomas (California), a two-RBI single by 2B Matt Hart (Santa Ana College), an RBI single by RF Anthony Cros (Northwest Oklahoma State), and a sacrifice fly by CF Jeremy Shelby (Grambling State). Cros’ RBI was the winning run, and Marc Wilson (Campbellsville) got the win, his first of the season. Cros leads the team with a .405 batting average, and a .553 on-base percentage. Dan Britton-Foster (British Columbia) is the leading pitcher for the Dawgs, with a record of 3-0, 1.12 ERA. Read the rest of this entry »

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – A total of 37 standout freshmen college baseball players from every part of the country are featured on the annual Pro-Line Athletic National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Freshman All-American Team, the organization announced today.

The 2009 Pro-Line Athletic NCBWA Freshman All-American Team is comprised from 17 conferences and 10 conference championship teams. The two All-American squads are also made up of 12 conference “Rookie of the Year” winners.
