ScottDoffek MILWAUKEE – The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee baseball team has announced the addition of five student-athletes who will compete next season for the Panthers.

Milwaukee head coach Scott Doffek stated today that Jordan Guth of Onalaska, Wis., Jim Lundstrom of Crete, Ill., Drew Pearson of Racine, Wis., Kyle Spurley of Linden, Wis., and Mark Strey of Marshfield, Wis., will all enroll at UWM and participate next season.

Guth finished up his career at Onalaska High School this season by earning Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Association All-District Second Team and All-Mississippi Valley Conference Second Team honors. He went 7-1 with an ERA of 1.53, striking out 94 batters while allowing just 18 walks and 42 hits in 64 innings of work while his team went 16-11 overall. As a junior, he went 8-0 with a 1.66 ERA in nine games, leading Onalaska to a 24-4 record overall. He finished with five complete games and two shutouts. The all-conference pitcher has played in the WBCA Brewers Classic All-Star game and is also a National Honor Society member who has earned all-academic honors. A member of the 2008 Wisconsin State Baseball Legion championship team, Guth was also an all-state hockey player.

ScottDoffek MILWAUKEE – University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Athletic Director George Koonce has announced that head baseball coach Scott Doffek has signed a new three-year contract.

Doffek just concluded his third season as the head coach of the Panthers. He was named the seventh head baseball coach in school history on Sept. 25, 2006.

"I am pleased that we have been able to agree with Scott Doffek on a new three-year contract," Koonce said. "Scott has given many great years of service to our department and university, and has led our baseball program to tremendous success. We look forward to having Scott with us for many years to come."

This weekend can be summed up in one word “sweet”. We had the opportunity again this season to play in the Jacksonville Invitational which is a great weekend round robin hosted by Jacksonville University. We started the weekend with a game against the University of Michigan which was a unique one. I have known head coach Rich Maloney for some years and this was the first time our two teams met on the diamond. Read the rest of this entry »

This wasn’t the ideal baseball weekend for our club, although the weather was terrific we came up short on our goals and expectations for this series. We faced great competition from one of the best teams in the country, Arizona State. They were exceptional at the plate and on the hill. TEMPE, Ariz. – Six home runs, including two each from Jason Kipnis and Carlos Ramirez, helped the No. 6 Arizona State University baseball team to a 13-5 victory over Wisconsin-Milwaukee in the opening game of a doubleheader Saturday at Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark. The first two weeks of practice have gone very well. The players came back ready for practice and in great shape from off season workouts. The first few days went slowly trying to get everyone into the rhythm again, working with class schedules and making sure players were on time was half the battle. The other half was working with our facility schedule. Here at Milwaukee we are an urban campus that is land locked. We have a 93 acre campus on the upper east side of the city. We have two on campus athletic facilities, the soccer field which is natural grass and the women’s basketball arena. Read the rest of this entry »

The Milwaukee Panthers had an up-and-down season in 2008, ending with a 25-36 record overall and a fifth-place showing in the Horizon League standings. But, it was the “up” that the season ended on that will be long remembered. Entering the Horizon League Tournament as the No. 5 seed, the Panthers played a special week of baseball, upsetting three different teams on the way to the tournament finale, where they came up just a victory away from their first NCAA Regional since the 2002 season. INDIANAPOLIS — The University of Illinois at Chicago has been picked to win the 2009 Horizon League Baseball Championship in balloting by the conference’s seven head coaches.

UIC received 36 points and the maximum six first-place votes as coaches were not permitted to vote for their own teams. The Flames posted a 35-22 overall record and 17-6 Horizon League mark a season ago en route to their fourth conference crown in six years. Read the rest of this entry »

University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee baseball coach Scott Doffek has made the 2009 schedule available to the general public. The schedule, which is still tentative at this time, again features a lengthy road stint (22 games) to begin the season, playing big-name teams like Arizona State and Michigan as the season begins. The home opener is scheduled for April 3rd against UIC.
