bcu_thumb Bethune-Cookman has released its tentative 2010 schedule.  BCU will begin the campaign by taking part in the MLB Urban Classic Tournament (Feb. 19-21) with games against UCLA, Loyola Marymount, and Southern.  From there, the team will travel to Jacksonville (Feb. 23) for a mid-week contest before visiting Lubbock, Texas, for a double round robin tournament with Texas Tech and Washington State (Feb. 26-28).

BCU will then face off against Stetson (March 2) and Jacksonville (March 3) at home before heading to Troy (March 5-7) for a weekend series.  Before opening conference play at Florida A&M (March 20-21), Bethune-Cookman will have home games against Wagner (March 9-10, March 12), USF (March 14), VCU (March 14), and Stetson (March 16).

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Ben Bunting went 3-for-5 with three RBI and tied a school record with two triples, and No. 4 North Carolina got eight strong innings from its bullpen in a 20-4 win over Winthrop Wednesday at Boshamer Stadium. ATHENS, Ga. – Jed Bradley scattered five runs over six innings and Jason Haniger went 4-for-5 with a home run to help No. 10 Georgia Tech (22-8-1) knock off top-ranked Georgia (29-7), 11-6, Tuesday night at Foley Field.

Bradley (2-2) tied a career-high with seven strikeouts to help the Yellow Jackets to their fifth win over a ranked opponent this season and their first against the nation’s top-ranked team since the 2003 season. The freshman lefty faced just one over the minimum from the third through fifth innings to earn his second win of the season. Read the rest of this entry »

ULL upsets LSU on Wednesday

ULL upsets LSU on Wednesday

Louisiana-Lafayette and Wofford both picked up huge non-conference victories on Wednesday evening. The Ragin Cajuns of Louisiana-Lafayette picked up their victory over the third ranked LSU Tigers in Baton Rouge. The Cajuns had a 9-3 lead after the fifth inning but the LSU Tigers made a great comeback to tie the game at 9 after eight innings. Scott Hawkins of Louisiana-Lafayette ended up leading off the ninth with a home run to left field to grab back the lead at 10-9. They were able to hold on for the victory. Wofford picked up a 16-8 victory over the 28th ranked South Carolina Gamecocks. Wofford had 17 hits in the ballgame while being led by Kyle Behrendt who had three hits and five RBI. Mark Fleury belted a two-run home run, and Garrett Gore and Kyle Seager each doubled and drove in three to help Carolina (4-1) bounce back from its first loss of the season. Here is your ACC Recap for February 21st. We saw the NC State Wolfpack continue with their early season struggles with another loss to Atlantic 10 member Xavier. UNC, FSU, Georgia Tech, Clemson, Wake Forest, Boston College, Virginia, and Virginia Tech continued with their perfect records.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Senior right-hander Adam Warren and three relievers combined on a four-hit shutout Saturday in No. 1 North Carolina’s 6-0 win over VMI at Bryson Field at Boshamer Stadium. I will be covering the ACC in depth this season with weekly previews of the weekend ahead. I believe that the ACC is one of the premier conferences in the country even though no team in the conference has won the national championship since 1955 when Wake Forest grabbed the title. The ACC is expected to be won by the North Carolina Tar Heels who are led by two of the best pitchers in the conference with Alex White and Matt Harvey. The North Carolina offense is led by junior Dustin Ackley who has been one of the best hitters in the country for the last two seasons. Read the rest of this entry »

A year ago, the Phoenix became the first team in seven seasons to win both the regular season and tournament titles en route to a 44-18 season and a berth in the NCAA Regionals. Wofford College announced the 2009 baseball schedule today, which is highlighted by a home games against Virginia Tech and South Carolina. Road trips to Clemson, Georgia, Duke and North Carolina State are also included during the season which will be the second for Todd Interdonato as head coach of the Terriers.

Petey Paramore (Tempe, AZ) – Petey Paramore returned to the lineup for Arizona State on Wednesday night and answered all the questions regarding his health status by falling a triple short of hitting for the cycle.  Starting as the designated hitter and batting in the third spot, Paramore hit his second home run of the year in the bottom of the first, that quickly staked the Devils to a two run lead.  Leading off the inning sophomore Jason Kipnis singled through the right side, and stole second and third base off Wofford College starter Jordan Mickleberry before Petey came to bat.

Ike Davis (Tempe, AZ) – Visiting Wofford College, the 2007 Southern Conference Champions, quickly discovered why Arizona State University is the consensus number one ranked team in the nation as the Sun Devils quickly built a 6 to 0 lead by the end of the second inning.

Terriers starter John Cornley began the game by throwing eight straight balls and therefore walked Devils leadoff hitter Jason Kipnis and two hole batter Ike Davis. However Cornley managed to find the zone against Brett Wallace and got him to strike out before clean up hitter Kiel Roling doubled down the left field line, scoring Kipnis.
