Frankie Piliere of Fanhouse.com attended the 2010 Cape Cod All-Star Game to take a look at all the talent in the game. He has some great information on some of the players in the game and who was the most impressive. The two pitchers in his mind that looked good were R.J. Alvarez and Tony Zych who both reached the upper 90’s with their respective fastballs.

The LSU Tigers have posted their 2011 schedule which features 56 games including 37 games played at Alex Box Stadium. They will open the 2011 campaign with a three game set against Wake Forest in Baton Rouge from February 18-20. After a mid-week game against New Orleans on February 22nd, the Tigers will host the Holy Cross Crusaders from the Patriot League for a three game set. The following weekend, LSU will host Princeton for three games from March 4th-6th. The best non-conference series for LSU comes the weekend of March 11th-13th when the Cal-State Fullerton Titans make the trip east.

The USA Collegiate National Team defeated Sri Lanka 15-0 in the team’s opener for the 2010 FISU World University Championships. Team USA used a seven run third inning to blow open a tight 1-0 game into an 8-0 lead. In the inning, LSU’s Mikie Mahtook came up with the big hit with a three run triple to right field. The team would also score five more runs in the fourth inning to expand the lead to 13-0 with Vanderbilt’s Jason Esposito getting a three run double in the inning. The game would end in the bottom of the fifth inning when UConn’s George Springer and Cal-State Fullerton’s Nick Ramirez hit back to back two out solo homers to put Team USA up 15-0 and end the game per the run rule.

Kendall Rogers of Rivals.com recently put out an article profiling the best ten coaching jobs over the past year. He names both Ray Tanner from South Carolina and John Savage from UCLA who faced off in the CWS Championship Series which was won by the Gamecocks two games to none. He also includes Peter Hughes (Virginia Tech), Jim Schlossnagle (TCU), Tim Esmay (Arizona State), Kevin O’Sullivan (Florida), John Pawlowski (Auburn), Jim Penders (UConn), Sunny Golloway (Oklahoma), and George Horton (Oregon).

The Cape Cod Baseball League hosted the 2010 All-Star Game at Fenway Park on Wednesday evening. The Western Division picked up a 5-0 victory over the East behind a strong pitching performance from the Western Division All-Stars. Taipei, Taiwan – Jackie Bradley, Jr. (South Carolina), Brad Miller (Clemson) and Ryan Wright (Louisville) each collected three hits and helped Team USA to a 9-1 win and a split of the four-game series with Chinese-Taipei Wednesday at Hsinchuang Field.
Bradley, Jr. and Wright joined Alex Dickerson with a team-best two RBI, while Wright smacked his first home run of the summer on a solo shot down the left field line in the third inning.

Alex Marconi, who has spent the last five years as an assistant baseball coach at Ball State University, has been named the school’s head baseball coach, according to Ball State athletics director Tom Collins.
"We had an outstanding pool of candidates for a very attractive head baseball coaching position at Ball State," Collins say. "Coach Marconi’s knowledge of the program, Ball State University and the Muncie community played a key role in his being named our head coach. He is an outstanding person with great integrity and character who has a tremendous work ethic and desire to be the head baseball coach at Ball State. We welcome Coach Marconi and his family to this new position and look forward to his future with the Cardinals."

Taipei, Taiwan – Pete O’Brien (Bethune-Cookman) hit his fourth home run of the season and drove in two runs to help the Collegiate National Team (CNT) snap its two-game skid against Chinese-Taipei Tuesday with a 6-3 victory at Hsinchuang Field. With the win Team USA improves to 10-2 on its summer tour.
O’Brien’s fielder’s choice RBI in the fourth inning broke a one-all and gave USA the lead for good at 2-1. George Springer (Connecticut) singled to right to start the inning and moved over to second when Nick Ramirez (Cal State Fullerton) was hit by a pitch. Jason Esposito (Vanderbilt) advanced the runner’s on a sac bunt towards first before Springer sprinted home on O’Brien’s grounder to short.

Here are my Top 10 players to watch in tomorrow’s Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star game at Fenway Park. The CCBL All-Star game is considered by many as the premier summer league All-Star game. The league has had 826 players proceed onto MLB careers. In 2009, the CCBL had 217 alums in the Majors while 234 Cape Leaguers were selected in the 2009 MLB Draft.
