Jared Mitchell signs with White Sox (Ted Kirk/AP)
Jared Mitchell has officially signed with the Chicago White Sox after being selected with the 23rd overall pick. He has been assigned to Kannapolis of the South Atlantic League.
Mitchell skyrocketed this season up the draft boards after focusing on baseball this spring after playing his first two seasons at the school splitting time between spring football and the baseball season. Read the rest of this entry »

 Former ASU star Dustin Pedroia
I recently posted an article from the Wall Street Journal which looked at the best baseball schools in the country. (Click here if you missed it.) I didn’t recognize it when I posted the article but it fails to mention Arizona State which has been a perennial power in the CWS and also putting players in MLB. One of our readers sent me the following letter about Arizona State not being included. Read the rest of this entry »

We have two major coaching changes in college baseball today. The biggest news is former Arizona State recruiting coordinator Josh Holliday will replace Erik Bakich at Vanderbilt. Bakich left last week for the head coaching job at Maryland. This is huge news as Holliday recruited the number 1 class in the country for this past year’s freshman class and has also been with Georgia Tech where he brought in some excellent players like Matt Wieters. The other big coaching change is East Carolina’s recruiting coordinator Link Jarrett moving over to Auburn to fill that position also. Read the rest of this entry »

The Washington Athletic Department announced on June 22nd that head coach Ken Knutson will no longer serve as the head baseball coach. As of right now, the Huskies have not been able to settle on a coach with several high profile head coaches and assistants pulling out of the running. The two most recent guys to pull out are Pepperdine’s Steve Rodriguez and LSU assistant coach David Grewe. The name everyone keeps bringing up is Nino Giarranto from San Francisco. Jeff Metcalfe of Azcentral.com has an interesting article checking in on the Arizona State program. The first piece of news in the report is the fact that Jordan Swagerty is giving back his 70 percent scholarship to the school if more signees decide to join the Sun Devils then expected. This is great news for the Sun Devils as it expands the quality of the ASU roster for next season. Read the rest of this entry »

Here are some of the best links from Around the Country for July 8th.
The first article comes from The Advocate in Baton Rouge which talks about LSU head coach Paul Mainieri’s future plans. Randy Rosetta states that LSU needs to relax on Mainieri if they want to keep him long term due to the short life span of Smoke Laval in the past. LSU fans are very fickle so you are expected to win national titles in a year in and year out basis. Read the rest of this entry »

The Wall Street Journal has an excellent article about which schools are the most successful in developing pro prospects. The interesting part about the MLB Draft is how high the failure rate of players is. One example of this is 1999 when over half of the first round picks have not been in the MLB while Albert Pujols has become the most feared hitter after being picked with the 402nd selection in that same draft.
